Damage characterisation of amine-functionalized MWCNT reinforced carbon/epoxy composites under indentation loading

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Damage resistance of carbon fibre reinforced composites is crucial parameter to be considered at both primary selection and in-service maintenance stages.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A Mechanistic Prediction Model of Resistance to Uprooting of Coniferous Trees in Heilongjiang Province, China

open access: yesPlants
Coarse roots and the root plate play an important role in tree resistance to uprooting. In this study, a qualitative mechanistic model was developed to analyze coniferous tree resistance to uprooting in relation to tree morphological characteristics. The

Fatigue damage detection and location of metal materials by electrical impedance tomography

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) technology is widely used in the field of biomedical research. Its basic principle is to use the material's own impedance characteristics to characterize its internal structure.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Global burden of bacterial antimicrobial resistance 1990-2021: a systematic analysis with forecasts to 2050 [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses an important global health challenge in the 21st century. A previous study has quantified the global and regional burden of AMR for 2019, followed with additional publications that provided more detailed ...

Combined etching technology for controlling surface damage precursors to improve laser damage resistance of fused silica

open access: yesResults in Physics
At present, a single post-processing technology will always introduce secondary defects (trace pollution elements and structural defects) while removing surface processing defects of fused silica components, which limits the further improvement of the ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

A DNA damage response system associated with the phosphoCTD of elongating RNA polymerase II.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
RNA polymerase II translocates across much of the genome and since it can be blocked by many kinds of DNA lesions, detects DNA damage proficiently; it thereby contributes to DNA repair and to normal levels of DNA damage resistance.
