The Enzymes of the Rifamycin Antibiotic Resistome
Accounts of Chemical Research, 2021Rifamycin antibiotics include the WHO essential medicines rifampin, rifabutin, and rifapentine. These are semisynthetic derivatives of the natural product rifamycins, originally isolated from the soil bacterium Amycolatopsis rifamycinica. These antibiotics are primarily used to treat mycobacterial infections, including tuberculosis.

The resistome of the bovine gastrointestinal tract
Current Opinion in Biotechnology, 2022The gastrointestinal tracts of beef and dairy cattle are reservoirs of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, and our knowledge of the ecology of resistance in these animals has changed with the advent of novel molecular technologies. Application of metagenomics and qPCR to the study of bovine gut ecology has demonstrated that there is overlap, with some ...

The antibiotic resistome: what's new?
Current Opinion in Microbiology, 2014The antibiotic resistome is dynamic and ever expanding, yet its foundations were laid long before the introduction of antibiotics into clinical practice. Here, we revisit our theoretical framework for the resistome concept and consider the many factors that influence the evolution of novel resistance genes, the spread of mobile resistance elements, and

Water Research
As important freshwater ecosystems, the occurrence and distribution of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in rivers are relevant to public health. However, studies investigating ARGs of different environmental media in river ecosystems are limited.

Metatranscriptome and Resistome of the Endodontic Microbiome
Journal of EndodonticsIn this study, we used metatranscriptomics for the first time to investigate microbial composition, functional signatures, and antimicrobial resistance gene expression in endodontic infections.Root canal samples were collected from ten teeth, including five primary and five persistent/secondary endodontic infections.
