Electron spin manipulation and resonator readout in a double quantum dot nano-electromechanical system

open access: yes, 2007
Magnetically coupling a nano-mechanical resonator to a double quantum dot confining two electrons can enable the manipulation of a single electron spin and the readout of the resonator's natural frequency.

Coupled resonators employing phase-conjugating and ordinary mirrors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
We calculate the oscillation conditions and the eigen-frequencies for phase-conjugating-resonator-normal-resonator coupled optical systems. With an eye toward applications to interferometry, we choose specific examples for which it is shown that the ...

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

The vibration of micro-circular ring of ceramic with viscothermoelastic properties under the classical Caputo and Caputo-Fabrizio of fractional-order derivative

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
This work introduces a novel mathematical framework for examining the thermal conduction characteristics of a viscothermoelastic, isotropic micro-circular ring. The foundation of the model is Kirchhoff’s theory of love plates.

Optimal Design of a Polyaniline-Coated Surface Acoustic Wave Based Humidity Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2013
This paper presents an optimal design for a new humidity sensor composed of a dual-resonator oscillator configuration with an operation frequency of 300 MHz, and a polyaniline (PANI) coating deposited along the resonation cavity of the sensing device. To

Damping and decoherence of a nanomechanical resonator due to a few two level systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We consider a quantum model of a nanomechanical flexing beam resonator interacting with a bath comprising a few damped tunneling two level systems (TLS's).

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...
