Synthesis, structure and binding properties of a series of dissymmetric resorcin[4]arene-based cavitands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The synthesis of four new dissymmetric cavitands is reported. These deep-walled receptors are constructed from a resorcin[4]arene scaffold bearing anti-disposed quinoxaline substituents, with either N-haloalkyl-diazaphthalimide (1), dinitrophenyl (2) or ...

Functional Supramolecular Aggregates From Cavitands Based on Resorcin[4]Arene: Assembly and Applications

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
This review highlights resorcin[4]arene cavitands as versatile macrocyclic building blocks for the construction of functional supramolecular aggregates through programmable noncovalent interactions. It systematically explores recent advances in the design, assembly mechanisms, and applications of cavitand‐based aggregates—including coordination ...

Photophysical Modulation of an Elongated Ir(III) Complex by a Resorcin[4]arene Monomer Host

open access: yesChemPhotoChem, Volume 10, Issue 1, January 2026.
An elongated Ir(III) complex is preferentially accommodated within the cavity of a monomeric resorcin[4]arene host rather than within a hexameric capsule. The resulting supramolecular assembly exhibits enhanced photoluminescence, attributed to π–π interactions between the guest and the host.

Bis-resorcin[4]arene Selectively Forms Hexameric Capsules in Apolar Solvents: Evidence from Diffusion NMR

open access: yes, 2018
Bis-resorcin[4]arene 2 connected by its lower rims was synthesized via click chemistry and found, by diffusion NMR, to self-assemble quantitatively, despite the different alternatives, into hexameric capsules reminiscent of the well-characterized ...

State‐of‐the‐Art, Insights, and Perspectives for MOFs‐Nanocomposites and MOF‐Derived (Nano)Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 52, December 29, 2025.
Different approaches to MOF‐NP composite formation, such as ship‐in‐a‐bottle, bottle‐around‐the‐ship and in situ one‐step synthesis, are used. Owing to synergistic effects, the advantageous features of the components of the composites are beneficially combined, and their individual drawbacks are mitigated.

Macrocyclic Hosts Featuring a Tetraphenylethene‐Embedded Skeleton: From Molecular Design and Photophysical Properties to Applications

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 6, Issue 11, November 2025.
The orthogonal integration of tetraphenylethylene (TPE) and its derivatives into the frameworks of five conventional macrocyclic hosts has garnered significant attention in the field of macrocyclic chemistry. This minireview systematically categorizes TPE‐embedded macrocyclic hosts into three types: non‐, semi‐, and full‐TPE‐embedded skeleton based on ...

Effect of the resorcin[4]arene host on the catalytic epoxidation of a Mn(iii)-based resorcin[4]arene–metalloporphyrin conjugate

open access: yesRSC Advances, 2015
The single-crystal X-ray diffraction data, binding behavior, and epoxidation reactions of the cavitand resorcin[4]arene–porphyrin conjugate are presented.

Recognition of steroids by self-assembled monolayers of calix[4]arene-resorcin[4]arene receptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy shows that a self-assembled monolayer of the calix[4]resorcin[4]arene-based receptor 1 binds steroids from aqueous solution.

Anion‐Mediated Charge‐Transfer Assemblies Composed of Resorcin[4]Arene and Viologen Salts

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 31, Issue 35, June 23, 2025.
Novel CT assemblies consisted of a concaved aromatic host and electron‐deficient organic salts are reported. The CT transition is promoted by concerted weak interactions between the components. The excited state dynamics are revealed by a theoretical study and a time‐resolved spectroscopy.

Self-Assembly of Resorcin[4]arene in the Presence of Small Alkylammonium Guests in Solution

open access: yes, 2016
We followed the self-assembly of C-alkyl-resorcin[4]arene (1a,1b) in the presence of tetraethylammonium salts (2). The X-ray structure of C-ethyl-resorcin[4]arene (1c) in the presence of TEABr (2b), showed a dimer encapsulating one guest.
