An improvement of the response surface method

Structural Safety, 2011
Abstract The coupling of the Monte Carlo method and the finite element method for the reliability analysis of structures leads often to a prohibitive computational cost. The response surface method is a powerful reliability method that approximates the limit state function with a polynomial expression using the values of the function at specific ...

Capabilities of stochastic response surface method and response surface method in reliability analysis

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2014
The stochastic response surface method (SRSM) and the response surface method (RSM) are often used for structural reliability analysis, especially for reliability problems with implicit performance functions. This paper aims to compare these two methods in terms of fitting the performance function, accuracy and efficiency in estimating probability of ...

“Response Surface” Method in Magnetic Optimization

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 1993
The use of "response surface" method in the sensitivity analysis and optimisation of electromagnetic devices is presented. The algorithm proposed is based on the first and second order polynomial least square fitting of the objective function of the optimisation.

Comparison of Stochastic Response Surface Method and Response Surface Method for Structure Reliability Analysis

2009 Second International Conference on Intelligent Computation Technology and Automation, 2009
The Response Surface Method (RSM) is not efficient to solve reliability analysis of complex and computationally high-demanding models. The Stochastic Response Surface Method (SRSM) was proposed recently. This paper adds some mathematics foundation for the SRSM, and compares the SRSM and RSM.

Slope reliability and response surface method

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1985
A method to analyze reliability of soil slopes using the response surface method is described. The soil slope is modelled and analyzed by a finite element code as in prevalent deterministic studies. The simulation which is usually expensive, is repeated a limited number of times to give point estimates of the response corresponding to uncertainties in ...

Experimental Optimization with Response Surface Methods

2021
Response surface methods provide a principled way of finding experimental conditions that maximize a response. They are based on sequential experimentation where we alternate between locally exploring the changes in response around a given condition, and determining a set of conditions that likely yields increasing response values.

A response surface method-based hybrid optimizer

Inverse Problems in Science and Engineering, 2008
In this article, we describe a hybrid optimizer based on a highly accurate response surface method, which uses several radial basis functions and polynomials as interpolants. The response surface is capable to interpolate linear as well as highly non-linear functions in multi-dimensional spaces having up to 500 dimensions.

Optimization and control using response surface methods

Computers & Chemical Engineering, 1997
Many processes exhibit an optimum that moves in time. Most optimization algorithms assume that the optimum is like a static hill and their procedures rely on this. This paper extends the ideas of Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to allow tracking of dynamic optima. The new algorithm is called DRSM.

Response surface methods for membrane humidifier performance

Journal of Power Sources, 2013
Abstract A designed experiment employing a response surface model was created to evaluate the performance of a passive, planar humidifier intended for the use in PEMFC applications. The performance of this humidifier was analyzed in terms of relative humidity and water transfer rate.
