Resting energy expenditure in cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Journal, 1997
A proportion of patients with chronic airflow limitation appear to have a raised resting energy expenditure (REE). This has been suggested as the reason for weight loss which may occur in these patients. A previous study found an increased REE in patients with interstitial lung disease of mixed aetiology.

Resting Energy Expenditure in Anorexia Nervosa: Measured versus Estimated

open access: yesJournal of Nutrition and Metabolism, 2012
Introduction. Aim of this study was to compare the resting energy expenditure (REE) measured by the Douglas bag method with the REE estimated with the FitMate method, the Harris-Benedict equation, and the Müller et al. equation for individuals with BMI <

Size Dependence in Non-sperm Ejaculate Production is Reflected in Daily Energy Expenditure and Resting Metabolic Rate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The non-sperm components of an ejaculate, such as copulatory plugs, can be essential to male reproductive success. But the costs of these ejaculate components are often considered trivial.

Assessment of physical activity and energy expenditure: an overview of objective measures

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2014
The ability to assess energy expenditure and estimate physical activity in free-living individuals is extremely important in the global context of non-communicable diseases including malnutrition, overnutrition (obesity) and diabetes.

The energy allocation trade-offs underlying life history traits in hypometabolic strepsirhines and other primates

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Life history, brain size and energy expenditure scale with body mass in mammals but there is little conclusive evidence for a correlated evolution between life history and energy expenditure (either basal/resting or daily) independent of body mass.

Seasonal temperature acclimatization in a semi-fossorial mammal and the role of burrows as thermal refuges. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Small mammals in habitats with strong seasonal variation in the thermal environment often exhibit physiological and behavioral adaptations for coping with thermal extremes and reducing thermoregulatory costs.

Preconceptional, Gestational, and Lactational Exposure to an Unconventional Oil and Gas Chemical Mixture Alters Energy Expenditure in Adult Female Mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
Previous studies conducted in our laboratory have found altered adult health outcomes in animals with prenatal exposure to environmentally relevant levels of unconventional oil and gas (UOG) chemicals with endocrine-disrupting activity.

Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.

An acute bout of cycling does not induce compensatory responses in pre-menopausal women not using hormonal contraceptives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
There is a clear need to improve understanding of the effects of physical activity and exercise on appetite control. Therefore, the acute and short-term effects (three days) of a single bout of cycling on energy intake and energy expenditure were ...

Quantum Emitters in Hexagonal Boron Nitride: Principles, Engineering and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum emitters in hexagonal boron nitride have emerged as a promising candidate for quantum information science. This review examines the fundamentals of these quantum emitters, including their level structures, defect engineering, and their possible chemical structures.
