Influence of resuspension on sediment-water solute exchange and particle transport in marine environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Marine sediments contain a large pool of nutrients, which if released would contribute to increased eutrophication, in spite of decreased nutrient loads from land and atmosphere.

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

Impact of wind-induced resuspension on urban air quality: a CFD study with air quality data comparison

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science
Wind-induced particulate matter (PM) resuspension is an increasingly recognized contributor to urban air pollution. A CFD model of 2D street canyon geometry was developed that can replicate the process of resuspension.

Investigating concentrations and sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in South and Central Texas bays and estuaries along the Gulf of Mexico, USA

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are among the most widespread organic contaminants in the environment, and anthropogenic activities can produce PAHs through a variety of pyrogenic or petrogenic means.

Relationship between bream (Abramis brama) activity and water turbidity in a shallow lake under different season conditions

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2019
The foraging activity of large-bodied benthivorous fish has been suggested to be of key importance for maintaining shallow lakes in a turbid state. Since especially the spring ecosystem dynamics determines the successive state of shallow lakes, such ...

Particle resuspension in school gyms during physical activities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The aim of this work was to quantify the exposure of children to particle resuspension in school gyms. In fact, although moderate standard aerobic activity is suggested for good health, adverse health effects could affect people exercising in micro ...

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.
