B fields in OB stars (BOB): FORS2 spectropolarimetric follow-up of the two rare rigidly rotating magnetosphere stars HD23478 and HD345439 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Massive B-type stars with strong magnetic fields and fast rotation are very rare and provide a mystery for theories of both star formation and magnetic field evolution. Only two such stars, called sigma Ori E analogs, were previously known.

Silicified Wood‐Inspired, High‐Strength Fire‐Resistant Chitin‐Based Aerogels for Sustainable High‐Temperature Thermal Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural silicified wood, a biomimetic mineralized chitin‐derived aerogel is constructed. It can withstand 81 000 times its own weight, and its backside temperature is 130.4°C after exposure to ∼1300°C butane flame for 600 s, exhibiting high‐strength, fire‐resistance, and super thermal‐insulation properties.

Functional films using reactive mesogens for display applications

open access: yesJournal of Information Display, 2017
Functional films made of reactive mesogens (RMs) are widely used in display devices such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and organic light-emitting diode displays (OLEDs).

Homogenous FACsPbI3 Perovskite Solar Cells Enabled by a Seed‐Facilitated Cation Exchange Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel seed‐facilitated cation exchange strategy is designed for homogenous FACsPbI3 perovskites using the biomass‐derived solvent γ‐valerolactone. Pre‐deposited 0D Cs4PbI6 seeds induce rapid nucleation and efficient cation exchange, producing a uniform FA–Cs distribution and significantly reducing defect density, enabling high‐performance and stable ...

The optimization of retarding regimes within the particular group of cuts

open access: yesNauka ta progres transportu, 2013
Purpose. The purpose is the improvement of the method of choosing the retarding regimes of cut rolling within the particular group in order to increase the quality of interval speed control of cuts at the automated hump. Methodology.

Transfer Length of Strands in Prestressed Concrete Piles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A top bar effect has been identified in prestressed concrete piles. The effect that this top bar effect has on the development of the prestressing strand is investigated. Strand transfer length is found to be proportional to the observed end slip.

Polarisation of very-low-mass stars and brown dwarfs

open access: yes, 2009
Ultra-cool dwarfs of the L spectral type (Teff=1400-2200K) are known to have dusty atmospheres. Asymmetries of the dwarf surface may arise from rotationally-induced flattening and dust-cloud coverage, and may result in non-zero linear polarisation ...

Coating Artificial Spider Silk Fiber with Magnetic FeCo: An Effective Strategy for Creating a Flexible Magneto‐Responsive Material

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An original method is presented for producing artificial spider silk fibers with magnetic and magnetomechanical responsiveness, which consists in coating them with a nanometer‐thick layer of FeCo alloy by sputtering deposition. The challenge of combining organic materials and inorganic magnetic nanostructures is addressed, thus taking a step forward ...

Failure Mechanism and Mechanical Properties of a Retard-Bonded Prestressed Concrete Girder While Curing

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
The mechanical performance and failure mechanism of a retard-bonded (RB) type prestressed concrete (PC) girder in different curing periods are investigated through four-point loading experiments.
