Exploring AAV‐Mediated Gene Therapy for Inner Ear Diseases: from Preclinical Success to Clinical Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current preclinical studies of AAV‐mediated gene therapy explore different strategies based on the characteristics of inner ear diseases. For genetic hearing loss, approaches include the replacement of a “good gene,” removal of a “bad gene,” or direct correction of mutations through base editing.

Dual‐Crosslinked Betaine‐Based Amphiphilic Hydrogel as a Promising Vitreous Substitute: Anti‐Adhesion, Anti‐Fouling, and Anti‐Cell Proliferation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel multiple cross‐linked betaine‐type amphiphilic polymer hydrogels are developed via in situ free radical copolymerization. The resultant formation, named P(SBMA‐co‐AANa) hydrogel, functions as a vitreous substitute and demonstrates superior performance in optical properties, support capacity, and biocompatibility on a vitrectomized rabbit model.

Multimodal Investigation of Angiogenesis and Its Prevention by Small Compounds in a Zebrafish Cancer Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A combined optical coherence tomography angiography and fluorescence imaging approach assesses tumor angiogenesis and drug effects in a novel zebrafish cancer model. By analyzing 3D vasculature data, the two imaging methods complement each other to quantify blood flow, vessel structure, and drug efficacy.

Purification and properties of carotene 15,15′-dioxygenase of rabbit intestine

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1972
Carotene 15,15′-dioxygenase, which oxidizes carotenoids to retinal, has been purified up to 200-fold from rabbit intestine by ammonium sulfate fractionation, heat treatment, and acetone precipitation.

Nicotine Reprograms Aging‐Related Metabolism and Protects Against Motor Decline in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Long‐term oral nicotine intake protects against age‐related motor decline in mice without eliciting systemic toxicity. Integrated multi‐organ metabolomic profiling and longitudinal gut microbiota analyses reveal that nicotine induces coordinated remodeling of glycolipid and sphingolipid metabolism, enhances NAD⁺ bioavailability, and suppresses ceramide

Role of P2X7R in Retinal Diseases: A Review

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease
Background P2X purinoceptor 7 receptor (P2X7R) is an ATP‐gated ion channel that, upon activation by ATP, triggers the release of inflammatory mediators and induces apoptosis in cells.
