Retinal Pigment Epithelial Detachment

Survey of Ophthalmology, 2007
Detachment of the retinal pigment epithelium is a prominent feature of many chorio-retinal disease processes, the most prevalent of which is age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Detachment of the retinal pigment epithelium may or may not be associated with choroidal neovascularization and may be caused by different types of pathogenesis, each ...

Retinitis Pigmentosa Without Pigment

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1976
Sixty-eight consecutive patients with retinitis pigmentosa were studied to determine the frequency of the nonpigmented form of the disease. There was an overall incidence of 22%. Fifty percent of all cases had no characteristic pigmentation, if the duration of night vision difficulty was three years or less.

RETINAL PIGMENT EPITHELIAL DETACHMENTS DEVOID OF RETINAL PIGMENT EPITHELIUM

RETINAL Cases & Brief Reports

Retinal pigment epithelial tears

Journal Français d'Ophtalmologie, 2019
A retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) tear is a well-known complication of retinal pigment epithelial detachments (PED) and may cause a significant visual impairment. The most common cause is a vascularized PED in patients with exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

TUMOR-ASSOCIATED RETINAL PIGMENT EPITHELIAL PROLIFERATION SIMULATING RETINAL PIGMENT EPITHELIAL TEAR

Retina, 1989
A lesion with both the clinical and fluorescein angiographic appearance of the classical retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) tear was discovered over the dome of an actively growing metastatic choroidal tumor in a patient with a previous history of breast carcinoma. However, our patient exhibited no evidence of pigment epithelial detachment or age-related

Retinitis Pigmentosa Without Pigment

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1969
NO treatment is known for the different types of hereditary retinitis pigmentosa although the degenerations have been described with the ophthalmoscope for over 100 years. When bone spicule pigmentation and arteriolar narrowing are visible, most patients have extinguished or very small electroretinograms (ERGs), and histopathologic studies have ...

Retinal Pigment Epithelium

2006
Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) arises from neuroectoderm and plays a key role in support of photoreceptor functions. Several degenerative eye diseases, such as macular degeneration or retinitis pigmentosa, are associated with impaired RPE function that may lead to photoreceptor loss and blindness. RPE derived from human embryonic stem (hES) cells can

Acute Retinal Pigment Epitheliitis

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1997
To report a patient with acute retinal pigment epitheliitis examined less than 24 hours after onset of symptoms. One day after the onset of blurred vision in her left eye, a 33-year-old woman had a best-corrected visual acuity of LE, 20/60 -2. The left eye had classic uniform golden-colored nodules in a honeycomb pattern in the foveal retinal pigment ...
