Retinal Pigment Epithelial Window Defect
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1978The clinical and histopathologic features of a solitary retinal pigment epithelial window defect are presented. Fluorescein angiography disclosed an area with early choroidal fluorescence but no late staining. Histopathologic studies showed an intact but attenuated retinal pigment epithelium with partial to complete loss of melanin granules, partial ...

Retinal Pigment Epithelium and Endothelium
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1986To the Editor. —The recent reports on the interactions between retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and endothelium in vitro point out that an RPElocated inhibitor of neovascularization and an endothelium-located chemoattractant for RPE cells explain only part of the story of how neovascularization and the status quo at Bruch's membrane are controlled.1 ...

Human retinal pigment cell culture
In Vitro, 1983Human retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)-derived cell lines were established from RPE-covered choroid tissue fragments, which had been generated by culture on nontissue culture plastic. Two phenotypes were apparent in a given line: (a) a compact cell which formed domes and ultimately melanosomes before being sloughed; and (b) a squamous cell which was ...

Annals of ophthalmology, 1977
Sixty-one patients with retinal pigment epitheliitis were studied. Fifty-two eyes in 40 patients were followed for 2 years. Good central visual acuity was maintained in more than 80% of these eyes. The differential diagnosis of retinal pigment epitheliitis and the characteristic findings are described.

Traumatic Retinal Pigment Epithelial Edema
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1979A 17-year-old girl was struct in the right eye by a mortarboard tossed into the air during high school graduation exercises. She suffered commotio retinae with damage to the retinal pigment epithelium and macular hole formation. Fluorescein angiography in the acute stages revealed diffuse staining at the level of the pigment epithelium.
