Increased plasma retinol binding protein 4 levels in patients with inflammatory cardiomyopathy
European Journal of Heart Failure, 2009AimsChronic heart failure (CHF) is associated with a higher risk for diabetes mellitus. Retinol binding protein 4 (RBP 4) is an adipose tissue‐derived protein with pro‐diabetogenic effects. A complete understanding of the association of CHF and insulin resistance remains elusive. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between CHF and

Crystallization and preliminary X-ray data of human plasma retinol-binding protein
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1983Crystals of human plasma retinol-binding protein have been obtained from 4.5 M-NaCl buffered at pH 6.8 with 20 mM-cacodylate. The crystals are trigonal with space group R3 and unit cell dimensions, referred to the hexagonal system, a = b = 104.2 A and c = 74.5 A. The crystals diffract to a resolution of 2.0 A.

Plasma membrane receptor for beta‐lactoglobulin and retinol‐binding protein in murine hybridomas
BioFactors, 1998AbstractThe aim of the present work was to study the binding of [125I]‐BLGA (β‐lactoglobulin variant A) to the plasma membrane fraction of hybrid cells. This binding increased as a function of time with on‐rate and off‐rate constant at 4.47 ± 0.18× 106 M−1 min−1 and 0.17 ± 0.07 min−1, respectively (n = 3).

Isolation and partial characterization of retinol-binding protein from chicken plasma
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure, 1974Abstract A simple rapid three-step procedure for the isolation of pure retinol-binding protein from chicken plasma is described. The method comprises DEAE-cellulose chromatography followed by preparative disc gel electrophoresis and final purification by Sephadex G-100 gel filtration.

Retinol-binding protein (RBP) is the retinol-specific transport protein present in plasma. The available crystal structures of different forms of RBP have provided details of the interactions of this binding protein with retinol, retinoids, and transthyretin (TTR, one of the plasma carriers of thyroid hormones).
