Semiconductor photoinduced isomerization of retinol acetate and retinol
Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry, 1993Abstract Irradiation of the visible-light-absorbing semiconductors CdSe and CdS suspended in organic solvents in the presence of retinol and retinol acetate catalysed cis—trans isomerization in retinoids selectively at trisubstituted double bonds.

Reaction of Retinol with Peroxynitrite [PDF]
The reactivity of retinol with peroxynitrite, which is a strong oxidant and has been reported to induce several biological damages, was investigated. 13-cis-14-nitroretinol (1), 13-trans-14-nitroretinol (2), 13-apo-beta-carotenone (3), retinal (4), 11,14-epoxyretinol (5), and 11,15-epoxyretinol (6) were identified as reaction products of retinol with ...

Retinol esterification in Sertoli cells by lecithin-retinol acyltransferase
Biochemistry, 1989Esterification of retinol occurs during the metabolism of vitamin A in the testis. An acyl-CoA:retinol acyltransferase (ARAT) activity has been described for microsomes isolated from testis homogenates. That activity was also observed here in microsomal preparations obtained from cultured Sertoli cells from 20-day-old (midpubertal) rats. ARAT catalyzed

Plasma Levels of Retinol in Cancer Patients Supplemented with Retinol
Oncology, 1987Previous studies have indicated that plasma levels of retinol are decreased in some cancer patients and that lower levels of retinol could be associated with a poor response to chemotherapy. This pilot study was conducted to determine whether it is possible to increase plasma levels of retinol in cancer patients by supplementation with retinol.

Aspects of the Metabolism of Retinol-Binding Protein and Retinol
1975Publisher Summary This chapter presents different aspects of the metabolism of retinol-binding protein (RBP) and retinol. RBP is not significantly decreased until the liver reserves of the vitamin are virtually abolished. The diminished concentration of RBP in plasma in manifest vitamin A deficiency reflects the impaired transport of retinol to the ...

Studies on the Cellular Uptake of Retinol Binding Protein and Retinol
Experimental Cell Research, 1999The uptake and release of (125)I-RBP and of holoRBP labeled with [(3)H]retinol ((3)H-ROH) were studied in two cell lines which synthesize and secrete RBP, the HepG2 hepatocarcinoma cell line and the Caki-1 kidney adenocarcinoma cell line, and in HeLa cells that do not express the endogenous RBP gene. In all three cell lines a part of endocytosed (125)I-

Vitamin A ist in Supermarkten, Reformhausern, Apotheken und Drogerien rezeptfrei erhaltlich. Viele Laien halten Retinol fur gesundheitsfordernd. Fruher wurde Vitamin A (Retinol) als wirksames Medikament in der Aknetherapie gepriesen. Noch heute wird sein Nutzen von manchen Autoren hervorgehoben und die Substanz als adjuvante Therapie eingesetzt ...
