Interaction of drugs and retinol
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1986In liver microsomes of ethanol-fed rats, retinol competitively inhibited the hydroxylation of aniline, the demethylation of dimethylnitrosamine, and the oxidation of ethanol to acetaldehyde, whereas the inhibition of benzphetamine demethylation was of the mixed type in microsomes of phenobarbital-treated, ethanol-treated or control rats.

Intraplacental retinol distribution
International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, 2005With the objective of evaluating intraplacental vitamin A distribution, 234 placental samples were collected, corresponding to six samples from each of the placentas analyzed: two from the lateral maternal portion, one from the central maternal portion, two from the lateral fetal portion, and one from the central fetal portion.

Intestinal Retinol Esterification and Serum Retinol in Children with Cystic Fibrosis
Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, 1986Summary: Children with cystic fibrosis (CF) often have a poor vitamin A status. We found in the present work a reduced level of serum retinol in older children with this disease. As retinol enters intestinal lymph as retinyl esters, the enzyme acyl‐CoA: retinol acyltransferase (ARAT) may be of importance for retinol absorption.

Levels of Liver Retinol and Retinol Ester in Pregnant and Pseudopregnant Rats
The Journal of Nutrition, 1965Retinol and retinol ester concentrations were determined in the livers of pregnant rats throughout the 21-day period of gestation and compared with those observed in pseudopregnant controls. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance and the results showed that levels of retinol and its ester in the livers of pregnant animals were significantly higher ...

Prealbumin-retinol-binding-protein-retinol complex in hemodialysis patients
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1988In hemodialysis (HD) patients, serum prealbumin (TBPA) is correlated to nutritional status and outcome despite usually elevated serum levels. The purpose of this work was to study the role of TBPA-retinol-binding-protein (RBP)-retinol complex changes in the elevation of serum TBPA in HD patients.

Retinol and retinol-binding protein in neonates with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia
Nutrition Research, 1999Abstract The incidence of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) is high in preterm very-low-birth-weight infants, and prematurity is one the main causes of neonatal and infant morbidity and mortality in Mexico. The objective of the study was to evaluate vitamin A status of infants at risk for BPD.

Serum Retinol and Retinol-Binding Protein in Mothers and Infants at Delivery
Neonatology, 1983The relations at birth between infant and maternal serum retinol, retinol-binding protein (RBP) and retinol/RBP molar ratio were investigated in 25 healthy term infants and their mothers. The mean serum levels of retinol and RBP were significantly higher in the mothers, but the mean molar ratio of retinol/RBP (RBP saturation) was significantly higher ...

Biochemistry, 1991
The interactions of retinol with rat cellular retinol-binding protein (CRBP) and with rat serum retinol-binding protein (RBP) were studied. The equilibrium dissociation constants of the two retinol-protein complexes (Kd) were found to be 13 x 10(-9) and 20 x 10(-9) M for CRBP and for RBP, respectively.

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses incubation and chromatographic procedure of retinol 4-hydroxylase. It also discusses the retinol 4-hydroxylase activity in microsomes and reconstituted systems. By revealing that microsomes are capable of actively metabolizing retinol and by elucidating that cytochrome P-450 isozymes are involved, one has ...
