Engineered Nanoplatforms Targeting Activated Hepatic Stellate Cells for Liver Fibrosis Therapy via TGF‐β Axis Inhibition and Ferroptosis Induction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 37, 9 October 2026.
FeS‐VA@lanifibranor (FVL), an activated hepatic stellate cell (aHSC)‐targeted nanoplatform comprising vitamin A‐functionalized two‐dimensional iron sulfide nanosheets and lanifibranor, is engineered for precision therapy of liver fibrosis. FVL suppresses the TGF‐β signaling pathway by inhibiting SMAD2/3 phosphorylation and induces ferroptosis in aHSCs,

A Pentaradial and Bilateral Combined Photoreception System in the Sea Cucumber is Mediated by a Blue Light‐Sensitive R‐Opsin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 58, 19 October 2026.
The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.

Bioengineered Exosome‐Loaded Immunomodulatory Bioadhesive Spray Reverses Liver Fibrosis and Metabolic Dysfunction That Triggers Beneficial Gut‐Liver Crosstalk in Chronic Fatty Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 58, 19 October 2026.
Umbilical cord stem cell‐derived exosomes encapsulated in an immunomodulatory bioadhesive hydrogel spray enable localized therapy, sustained vesicle delivery, macrophage polarization, suppress systemic inflammation, and mitigate glucose and insulin homeostasis impairments in MAFLD.

METTL7A Downregulation Drives SLC1A5‐Mediated Glutamine Competition to Promote Tumor Proliferation and Suppress CD8+ T Cell Immunity in Gastric Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 60, 28 October 2026.
GC cells enhance glutamine accumulation by upregulating SLC1A5 expression. This upregulation not only boosts GC cell proliferation, but also outcompetes CD8+ T cells for glutamine and suppresses their antitumor immunity. Mechanistically, METTL7A deficiency in GC induces SLC1A5 overexpression via an m6A‐dependent pathway and N‐glycosylation ...

5'-Nucleotidase activity in retinol deficiency induced albino rats.

open access: yes, 1993
Retinol deficient rat liver, kidney and spleen showed a significant decrease in their enzyme activity (36% to 50%) compared to controls. The lectins could stimulate the enzyme activity in retinol deficient group by 57.6 to 92%, compared to controls (13.3%

Epicardial Adipose Tissue as a Dynamic Modulator of Coronary Artery Disease Phenotypes: Pathophysiology and Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 49, Issue 10, October 2026.
Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) may contribute to the heterogeneous pathophysiology of coronary artery disease (CAD) through interconnected inflammatory, metabolic, and paracrine mechanisms. This review integrates EAT biology across CAD phenotypes and examines therapeutic strategies that may modulate EAT, highlighting current evidence and key gaps in ...
