Retransmission ≠ repeat [PDF]

open access: possibleProceedings of the sixteenth annual international conference on Mobile computing and networking, 2010
Collisions in overlapping channels can be a major problem in the deployment of high-speed OFDM networks. In this paper, we present Remap, a simple, novel paradigm for handling collisions in overlapping OFDM channels. Remap introduces a novel concept of retransmission permutation that permutes the bit-to-subcarrier assignment after each transmission ...

The Eifel retransmission timer

ACM SIGCOMM Computer Communication Review, 2000
We analyze two alternative retransmission timers for the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). We first study the retransmission timer of TCP-Lite which is considered to be the current de facto standard for TCP implementations. After revealing four major problems of TCP-Lite's retransmission timer, we propose a new timer, named the

Opportunistic Retransmission in WLANs

IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, 2012
This paper presents an efficient opportunistic retransmission protocol (PRO, Protocol for Retransmitting Opportunistically) to improve the performance of IEEE 802.11 WLANs. PRO is a link-layer protocol that allows overhearing nodes to function as relays that retransmit on behalf of a source after they learn about a failed transmission.

A competitive analysis for retransmission timeout

Networks, 1999
Summary: Protocols that provide reliable communication on top of a network that can lose packets rely on periodically retransmitting packets. The choice of retransmission timeout critically affects system performance. This paper presents a first step toward a theoretical study of the choice of retransmission timeout, based on competitive analysis.

How to Deploy Timer for Retransmission

2021
In some emerging mobile applications, the UDP has advantage for service latency. However, retransmission mechanism is essential to deal with the losing packets while the service is based on UDP protocol. The timer for retransmission could be deployed on sender side or receiver side.

Retransmission Error Control with Memory

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1977
Automatic-repeat-request (ARQ) is one of the most commonly used error control techniques today. In this paper, an error control technique that is a basic improvement over ARQ is presented. The technique uses the simple idea of utilizing erroneously received blocks in an ARQ system for error control, retaining most of the other aspects of ARQ.

Matrix modulation and adaptive retransmission

Seventh International Symposium on Signal Processing and Its Applications, 2003. Proceedings., 2003
We consider different high rate space-time modulation methods and related (re)transmission strategies in a MIMO channel. The proposed matrix modulators exploit the MIMO channel in increasing the peak rate via power-efficient parallel transmission, whereas the self-orthogonalizing retransmission and signal combining strategies improve ultimate ...

The Retransmission Swamp

2018
The platformisation of the television industry and the subsequent expansion of market power of such platforms has produced numerous negotiating impasses between television broadcasters and distributors. This chapter centres on this so-called retransmission swamp: Retransmission fees, which make up a substantial part of a broadcaster’s income, are on ...
