Retransmissions over correlated channels
ACM SIGMETRICS Performance Evaluation Review, 2013Frequent failures characterize many existing communication networks, e.g. wireless ad-hoc networks, where retransmission- based failure recovery represents a primary approach for successful data delivery. Recent work has shown that retransmissions can cause power law delays and instabilities even if all traffic and network characteristics are super ...

MAC layer retransmissions in 1XTREME
The 13th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, 2003We study the joint reliability as offered by the medium access control (MAC) and the radio link protocol (RLP) in CDMA systems, particularly for 1XTREME. The retransmission mechanism in the RLP has considerable amount of delay associated with it which might not be able to sustain real-time communications with strict delay requirements.

Towards Zero Retransmission Overhead: A Symbol Level Network Coding Approach to Retransmission
IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, 2011We present SYNC, a physical layer transmission scheme that drastically reduces the cost of retransmission by introducing network coding concepts to symbol level operation. It piggybacks a new packet on each retransmitted packet, and exploits the previously received packet (possibly with error) at the receiver to recover both the retransmitted packet ...

Retransmission in distributed media streaming
Proceedings of the 15th International Workshop on Network and Operating Systems Support for Digital Audio and Video, 2005This paper considers the use of Automatic Request Request (ARQ) schemes in distributed media streaming. We analytically model three different ARQ schemes and derive effective packet loss rate and burst length of these schemes. Our model is verified through simulations and experiments over wide-area network.

Bit Rearrangement for MIMO Retransmissions
IEEE GLOBECOM 2007-2007 IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2007In this paper, we propose a new hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) scheme in MIMO. The proposed scheme performs bit-level exchanges and modifications every retransmission and covers all combinations of number of antennas and number of retransmissions in M-QAM.

An Improved Broadcast Retransmission Protocol
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1984A recent paper by Calo and Easton proposes a broadcast protocol for identical file transfers to M different sites wherein a large block of transmitted data is divided into N frames of B bits each, and in a second transmission cycle all frames not acknowledged by all sites are retransmitted.

Capture and retransmission control in mobile radio
IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 1994We consider the slotted ALOHA protocol with capture, in a mobile communication environment, in the presence of Rayleigh fading and log-normal shadowing. The capture probabilities and their asymptotic value, as the number of colliding packets tends to infinity, are computed.

Optimizing TCP Retransmission Timeout
2005Delay spikes on Internet paths can cause spurious TCP timeouts leading to significant throughput degradation. However, if TCP is too slow to detect that a retransmission is necessary, it can stay idle for a long time instead of transmitting. The goal is to find a Retransmission Timeout (RTO) value that balances the throughput degradation between both ...

Computing the Retransmission Timeout in CoAP
2013The most prominent IT trend nowadays is connection of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) with Internet service infrastructure. Interconnection of the millions of sensor and processing devices will create a tremendous traffic increase that can lead to congestion.

Improvements in Block-Retransmission Schemes
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1979Consider the case where an n -digit block encoded word cannot be decoded reliably and a second block of n redundant digits is sent to allow the receiver to make a new try based on the combined information received. Two classes of schemes are proposed and analyzed which give significantly better performance than is obtained by sending a repeat of the ...
