ABSTRACT Background Oral mucositis is a common and debilitating side effect of childhood cancer and stem cell transplant treatments. It affects the quality of life of children and young people (CYP) and places a strain on services. Photobiomodulation is recommended for oral mucositis prevention in international guidance but is poorly implemented in UK ...

Development of exhaust emission factors for vessels: A review and meta-analysis of available data
The maritime sector is characterized by high contribution in the emission of harmful pollutants such as NOX, PM, and SOX. The sector is making decisive steps to drastically reduce its environmental footprint by applying new technology and fuels as a ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Impact of affluence, nuclear and alternative energy on US carbon emissions from 1960 to 2014
Using the extended STIRPAT model, this research examines the influence of various factors on US carbon emission from 1960 to 2019, including nuclear and alternative energy of total, fossil energy of total, GDP per capita, total population, urban ...

Confined-domain crosslink-enhanced emission effect in carbonized polymer dots
Confined-domain crosslink-enhanced emission effect was first studied to reveal the photoluminescence mechanism of carbonized polymer dots (CPDs). A general strategy was exploited to synthesize CPDs exhibiting tunable photoluminescence properties.

Probing the Pulsar Wind Nebula of PSR B0355+54 [PDF]
We present XMM-Newton and Chandra X-ray observations of the middle-aged radio pulsar PSR B0355+54. Our X-ray observations reveal emission not only from the pulsar itself, but also from a compact diffuse component extending ~50'' in the opposite direction

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Optimization of photomixers and antennas for continuous-wave terahertz emission [PDF]
We have studied terahertz emission from interdigitated finger photomixers coupled to planar antenna structures. Using both pulsed and continuous-wave excitation, polarization measurements reveal that the antenna design dominates the properties of the

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

In addition to the standard 447 nm blue emission from the InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells, a high-energy shoulder is clearly observed in cathodoluminescence spectra of the high-efficiency InGaN/GaN blue light emitting diodes grown on sapphire substrates
