The RhlA specificity explains the observed differences in 3-(3-hydroxyalkanoyloxy)alkanoic acid (HAA) congeners. Whole-cell catalysts can now be designed for the synthesis of different congener mixtures of HAAs and rhamnolipids, thereby contributing to ...

Resistance of Oil‐Infused PDMS with Different Macroporosities Against Bacterial Attachment
In this study, a series of environmentally benign, nonfluorinated liquid paraffin‐infused porous PDMS networks with varying porosities is created. By introducing different homogenous and heterogenous bulk structures and varying interfacial roughness by sugar and salt templating, the role of porosity and oil availability on the resistance against ...

Efficient Dye Removal from Aqueous Solutions Using Rhamnolipid Biosurfactants by Foam Flotation [PDF]
Methylene blue was efficiently removed from aqueous solution by foam flotation using a rhamnolipid biosurfactant as a dye collector. The effects of four parameters, namely, pH (1.5–11.5), frother concentration (5–65 ppm), aeration rate (2–6 L/min) and ...

Genetic Cell-Surface Modification for Optimized Foam Fractionation
Rhamnolipids are among the glycolipids that have been investigated intensively in the last decades, mostly produced by the facultative pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa using plant oils as carbon source and antifoam agent.

The most elaborate known example of β‐oxidation‐like pathway recruitment in fungi is reported, involving a 10‐step oxidative chain‐shortening cascade catalyzed by five dedicated enzymes to generate the pharmacophore of mycophenolic acid (MPA)—a novel clinical immunosuppressant. Our findings illustrate how nature repurposes catabolic enzymes for complex

A possible role of ground-based microorganisms on cloud formation in the atmosphere [PDF]
The formation of clouds is an important process for the atmosphere, the hydrological cycle, and climate, but some aspects of it are not completely understood.

Rhamnolipid coating reduces microbial biofilm formation on titanium implants: an in vitro study
Background Peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis are biofilm-related diseases causing major concern in oral implantology, requiring complex anti-infective procedures or implant removal.

Salt‐Induced Modulation of Self‐Assembly in C8‐10 AlkylPolyGlucoside/Fatty Alcohol Formulations
Salt's effect on the APG:1‐Dodecanol system was studied. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering showed salt increased interparticle correlation, leading to higher structural organization at higher salt concentrations. This correlates with observed viscoelastic properties. Cleaning efficiency tests were also conducted on samples.
