The Expression and Activity of Rhodanese, 3-Mercaptopyruvate Sulfurtransferase, Cystathionine γ-Lyase in the Most Frequently Chosen Cellular Research Models

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2021
This paper provides information concerning the activity and expression levels of three sulfurtransferases (STRs): rhodanese (TST, EC: 2.8.1.1), 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (MPST, EC: 2.8.1.2) and cystathionine γ-lyase (CTH, EC: 4.4.1.1) in ...

SERS‐AI‐LUA‐Driven Salivary Diagnosis of Head and Neck Cancer Using Graphene‐Assisted Plasmonic Nanocorals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 48, December 29, 2025.
The developed graphene‐assisted plasmonic nanocoral platform enables sensitive, label‐free surface‐enhanced Raman scattering analysis of salivary metabolites for head and neck cancer (HNC) detection. When combined with machine learning classification and nonnegative least squares‐based spectral deconvolution, this approach achieves 98% diagnostic ...

Partial Purification and Characterization of Rhodanese from Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Liver

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2012
Cyanide is one of the most toxic substances present in a wide variety of food materials that are consumed by animals. Rhodanese, a ubiquitous enzyme, can catalyse the detoxification of cyanide by sulphuration reaction.

Multiple Forms of Bovine Liver Rhodanese [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1981
The heterogeneity of crystalline rhodanese from bovine liver has been studied. The enzyme was separated by preparative disc electrophoresis into four stable forms designated I(3.5%), II(17.0%), III(62.0%) and IV(17.5%). All these components have the same molecular weight of about 35,000 both in native and denaturing conditions.

Bioleaching Microbial Community Metabolism and Composition Driven by Copper Sulphide Mineral Type

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 6, December 2025.
Bioleaching is a microbially mediated green technology for the recovery of metals from ore. Here, microbial consortia from a copper bioleaching column in Cyprus were cultivated on chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) and then sub‐cultured on chalcocite (Cu2S) and chalcopyrite to investigate how mineral type and surface chemistry influence microbial community ...

Genetic diversity of ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma mali’ strains in Poland

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2015
During 2010-2013, samples from 267 apple trees growing in six regions of Poland were tested for phytoplasma presence. ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma mali’ was detected in 17 samples from phloem tissue of apple shoots showing typical apple proliferation symptoms.

Impact of intestinal microbiota on metabolic toxicity and potential detoxification of amygdalin

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Amygdalin (Amy) is metabolized into cyanide in vivo, which may lead to fatal poisoning after oral administration. The defense mechanisms against toxic cyanide have not yet been adequately studied.

The titration of rhodanese with substrates [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1974
The transfer of sulfur catalyzed by rhodanese (EC 2.8.1 .l .) is thought to proceed through a double displacement mechanism where the enzyme is first charged with the donor sulfur and then discharged by the acceptor [ 1 ] . Earlier workers have reported that the enzyme accepts from 1 to 1.9 atoms of sulfur per mole of enzyme of mol. wt. of 37 000 (2-4).

Cyanide Beyond Toxicity: A Systematic Review of Its Effects on Vascular Function

open access: yesBasic &Clinical Pharmacology &Toxicology, Volume 137, Issue 5, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Cyanide is widely recognized for its potent toxicity, yet evidence shows that concentrations below 1 μM may enhance cytochrome c oxidase activity and have a regulatory function. Recent findings also demonstrate that mammalian cells, including endothelial cells, produce cyanide endogenously, where it can modulate mitochondrial bioenergetics ...

Effect of 3‐mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3‐MST) inhibitors on contractile responses in porcine coronary artery

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 22, Page 5453-5468, November 2025.
Background and Purpose Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is synthesised endogenously through cystathionine β‐synthase (CBS), cystathionine γ‐lyase (CSE) and 3‐mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3‐MST). Although exogenous H2S is known to produce vasodilatation, the vascular effect of H2S produced through 3‐MST is unknown. In this study, we demonstrate the effect
