Resistance studies of erythromycin and rifampin for Rhodococcus equi over a 10-year period

open access: yesIrish Veterinary Journal, 2007
This study sought to determine whether an increase in resistance of Rhodococcus equi to the antibiotics rifampin and erythromycin occurred over a 10-year period.

Two‐Step Synthesis of a Chiral Fluorinated Alcohol With Silica‐Supported Enzyme RrADH in Batch and Continuous Flow Mode

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A two‐step process was transferred from batch to flow mode for the synthesis of (R)‐2‐fluoro‐1‐phenylethanol as a benchmark, consisting of a decarboxylative fluorination in aqueous media, followed by an enantioselective biocatalytic reduction of the prochiral intermediate with RrADH immobilized on silica supraparticles.

Prescottia equi gen. nov., comb. nov.: a new home for an old pathogen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The taxonomic status of Rhodococcus equi, originally isolated from foal specimens, has been the subject of discussion for a number of years. The chequered history of the taxon has prompted this polyphasic analysis of R. equi strains, close members of the

Stereoselective Chemoenzymatic Synthesis Metaraminol Involving Gold‐Catalysed Alkyne Hydration and Carbonyl Biotransamination

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
A chemoenzymatic synthesis of (1R,2S)‐metaraminol was developed by combining gold(I)‐catalysed alkyne hydration and stereoselective biotransamination in a sequential one‐pot process. Various phenol protection strategies were considered in oxidation‐reduction sequences, providing access to enantiopure propargylic alcohols as starting materials for ...

Aerobic growth of Rhodococcus aetherivorans BCP1 using selected naphthenic acids as the sole carbon and energy sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Naphthenic acids (NAs) are an important group of toxic organic compounds naturally occurring in hydrocarbon deposits. This work shows that Rhodococcus aetherivorans BCP1 cells not only utilize a mixture of eight different NAs (8XNAs) for growth but they ...

pB264, a small, mobilizable, temperature sensitive plasmid from Rhodococcus

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2004
Background Gram-positive bacteria of the genus Rhodococcus have shown an extraordinary capacity for metabolizing recalcitrant organic compounds. One hindrance to the full exploitation of Rhodococcus is the dearth of genetic tools available for strain ...

Rhodococcus luteus nom. nov. and Rhodococcus maris nom. nov. [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic Bacteriology, 1982
Two groups of bacteria isolated from natural substrates were assigned to the genus Rhodococcus Zopf 1891, emend. Goodfellow and Alderson 1977. We propose the name Rhodococcus luteus nom. nov. for the first group, which corresponds to the description of the organism previously known as “Mycobacterium luteum” Sohngen 1913. The type strain of R. luteus is

The emergence of pathogens on fish in an impacted estuary and the role of non‐native piranhas in a potential bacterial infectious outbreak

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract As many tropical aquatic ecosystems worldwide, the Doce River estuary (DRE, southeastern Brazil) has increasingly faced multiple anthropogenic threats, including deforestation, mining, species introduction and water management. The 2015 collapse of the Fundão iron ore tailings dam severely changed water properties and increased heavy metal ...

The genome of a pathogenic rhodococcus : cooptive virulence underpinned by key gene acquisitions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We report the genome of the facultative intracellular parasite Rhodococcus equi, the only animal pathogen within the biotechnologically important actinobacterial genus Rhodococcus. The 5.0-Mb R.

Gut Microbiota‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Patients With Obesity Undergoing Gastric Bypass Surgery

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been suggested to participate in gut microbiota–host communication. While obesity and bariatric surgery have been shown to alter the gut microbiota composition, changes in gut microbiota‐EVs have not been investigated.
