A male ribbon seal ( Histriophoca fasciata ) was captured alive near Morro Bay, California on 16 November 1962, and kept on display in a public aquarium until its death 19 December 1962. Observations on the living animal, the freshly dead carcass and the skull are presented, including a brief comparison with a living Phoca vitulina .
