The inhibitory power of adenine and 4-aminopyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine (4-APP) on the RNA-N-glycosidase activity catalyzed by bacterial (Shiga toxin 1) and plant (ricin, gelonin, momordin, bryodin-R, PAP-S, luffin, trichosantin, saporin 6 and barley) RIPs has been compared. The behavior of the two inhibitors is largely variable.

Ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) of wild Oregon cucumber (Marah oreganus).
Biological chemistry, 1998Two type 1 RIPs, designated as MOR-I and MOR-II, have been isolated from Marah oreganus (manroot) seed extract. They are similar but not identical to trichosanthin, a type 1 RIP in the same family. MOR-I and MOR-II are monomeric proteins with molecular weights of 27989.0 and 27632.8 respectively and have pI values greater than 8.8.

Members of the type 2 ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) family (e.g. ricin, abrin) are potent cytotoxins showing a strong lethal activity towards eukaryotic cells. Type 2 RIPs contain two polypeptide chains (usually named A, for activity, and B, for binding) linked by a disulfide bond.
