Regeneration of Ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate and Ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase Activity Associated with Lack of Oxygen Inhibition of Photosynthesis at Low Temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The nature of the lack of oxygen inhibition of C3-photosynthesis at low temperature was investigated in white clover (Trifolium repens L.). Detached leaves were brought to steady-state photosynthesis in air (34 Pa p(CO2), 21 kPa p(O2), balance N2) at ...

Rubisco in complex with Rubisco large subunit methyltransferase. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
SET domain protein lysine methyltransferases (PKMT) are a structurally unique class of enzymes that catalyze the specific methylation of lysine residues in a number of different substrates.

Guard‐cell expression of abscisic acid receptors for engineering water‐use‐efficient plants without trade‐offs in growth

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Abscisic acid (ABA) induces stomatal closure, reducing transpirational water loss, a critical adaptation for agriculture under drought. However, ABA is often viewed cautiously as stomatal closure limits CO2 uptake for photosynthesis and growth.

Proteomic analysis of saffron (Crocus sativus L.) grown under conditions of cadmium toxicity

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2017
Cd is a highly detrimental global environmental pollutant. Plants have evolved complex defense mechanisms as an adaptation to against Cd toxicity. In this study, a pot experiment was performed to evaluate the protein profile of saffron in response to Cd ...

Impact of methionine nutrition on the leaf proteome of Lupinus angustifolius L. and Vicia faba L. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Grain legumes possess a gernerally favourable seed protein amino acid composition but low contents of sulfur amino acids decrease their nutrient value. To enhance the methionie content of local grain legumes by plant breeding, phenotypical attributes for

Photosynthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Photosynthesis sustains virtually all life on planet Earth providing the oxygen we breathe and the food we eat; it forms the basis of global food chains and meets the majority of humankind's current energy needs through fossilized photosynthetic fuels ...

The function of the small subunits of ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase-oxygenase.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1983
When ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase-oxygenase from Synechococcus (strain RRIMP N1) was precipitated under mildly acidic conditions, most of its small subunits remained in solution. The precipitated enzyme readily redissolved at neutral pH and remained as an octamer of large subunits with some small subunits still attached.

Positional 13C enrichment analysis of aspartate determines PEPC activity in vivo

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Photoautotrophic organisms fix inorganic carbon (Ci) by RIBULOSE‐1,5‐BISPHOSPHATE CARBOXYLASE/OXYGENASE (RUBISCO) and PHOSPHOENOLPYRUVATE CARBOXYLASE (PEPC). Monitoring Ci assimilation rates in vivo is a major challenge in analyzing photoautotrophic metabolism and engineering improved photosynthesis, as conventional methods do not distinguish ...

Molecular changes in agroinfiltrated leaves of Nicotiana benthamiana expressing suppressor of silencing P19 and coronavirus‐like particles

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary The production of coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines can be achieved by transient expression of the spike (S) protein of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in agroinfiltrated leaves of Nicotiana benthamiana. Relying on bacterial vector Agrobacterium tumefaciens, this process is favoured by co‐expression of viral silencing suppressor

Molecular systematics of the genera Laurencia, Osmundea and Palisada (Rhodophyta) from the Canary Islands - Analysis of rDNA and RUBISCO spacer sequences

open access: yesAnales del Jardín Botánico de Madrid, 2008
The molecular systematics of Laurencia, Osmundea and Palisada (Rhodomelaceae, Ceramiales) species from the Canary Islands has been determined by analysis sequences of the ribulose,1-5, bisphosphate carboxylase (RUBISCO) spacer from the plastid genome and
