A DUF3455 domain‐containing protein promotes Ustilaginoidea virens infection and functions as a plant immune elicitor

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, EarlyView.
The fungal effector UvDUF1 from Ustilaginoidea virens not only promotes infection but also acts as a plant immunity elicitor, inducing broad‐spectrum disease resistance in rice and Nicotiana benthamiana. These results reveal its potential as a novel target for sustainable crop protection strategies.

Proteomic identification of OsCYP2, a rice cyclophilin that confers salt tolerance in rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings when overexpressed

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2011
Background High Salinity is a major environmental stress influencing growth and development of rice. Comparative proteomic analysis of hybrid rice shoot proteins from Shanyou 10 seedlings, a salt-tolerant hybrid variety, and Liangyoupeijiu seedlings, a ...

Comprehensive DIA‐MS Proteomics of Root Basal Nodes Elucidates Mechanisms of Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil salinity severely affects rice growth, yield, and quality, posing a global food security challenge. Rice is particularly vulnerable to high salinity, which restricts growth and tolerance to other stresses. To address this, breeding efforts have been made in the past, leading to the generation of multi‐stress‐tolerant rice lines.

Farmers adopt healthy rice seedling practices in Bangladesh [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Awareness-raising activities through a 10-minute instructional video by the CSISA project (Cereal Systems Initiative South Asia) in Bangladesh resulted in 60,000 hectares planted with healthy rice seedlings in 2017, while direct training resulted in an ...

The potential of seedbank digital information in plant conservation

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Seedbanks are vital for biodiversity conservation, but their potential remains underutilised due to a limited understanding of the intraspecific genetic diversity they hold. By leveraging digitised data associated with seedbank collections, such as sampling locations, number of maternal plants and seed traits, we can attempt the estimation of genetic ...

Breeding for multi‐stress resilience in crops: Myth or possibility?

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate change threatens millions of farmers worldwide by exposing crops to multiple concurrent or sequential environmental stresses such as drought, heat, waterlogging, and diseases. Although crops have long been selected under naturally occurring multi‐stress conditions, breeding pipelines largely focus on optimal or single‐stress environments ...

Infection assays with rice and barley seedlings.

open access: yes, 2012
Conidia were harvested from 10-day-old oatmeal agar cultures of wild-type strains P131 and S1528, and the chs1-chs7 mutants. (A) Eight-day-old seedlings of barley cultivar Golden Promise were spray inoculated. Typical leaves were photographed 5 dpi.
