Oxygen Release from Rice Seedlings

Physiologia Plantarum, 1973
AbstractOxygen release from root systems of individual rice seedlings was measured polarographically employing an oxygen monitor with a Clark electrode. The oxidizing capacity of four rice varieties was correlated with their relative yielding abilities and with their reactions to Straighthead (SH) and Mild Sulfide Disease (MSD).

Phasic Development of Rice Seedlings

Agronomy Journal, 1997
AbstractA better understanding of growth and developmental processes of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings is necessary for crop management and modeling perspectives. This experiment was conducted to identify preautotrophic phases of rice seedlings, quantify seed dry matter mobilization and utilization, characterize dry matter partitioning during early ...

Regulation of growth in rice seedlings

Journal of Plant Growth Regulation, 1983
Etiolated rice seedlings (Oryza sativa L.) exhibited marked morphological differences when grown in sealed containers or in containers through which air was passed continuously. Enhancement of coleoptile and mesocotyl growth and inhibition of leaf and root growth in the sealed containers (“enclosure syndrome”) were accompanied by accumulation of CO2 ...

Weed control in rice seedling nurseries

Crop Protection, 1988
Abstract Experiments were conducted in farmers' fields at Guimba, Nueva Ecija and at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Los Banos, Laguna to test the efficacy of different methods of controlling weeds in rice ( Oryza sativa L.) seedling nurseries. Hand weeding was laborious and ineffective due to the morphological similarities between

Dissemination of weeds with rice seedlings

Tropical Pest Management, 1988
Abstract Dissemination of weed seeds, weed seedlings, and shoots of perennial weeds along with transplanted rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings was observed in farmers’ fields in Guimba, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. The percentage of weed seedlings and shoots in bundles of rice seedlings to be transplanted into the field ranged from 4–5 to 14.2% in the wet ...

Glucose metabolism in anaerobic rice seedlings

Plant Science, 1986
Abstract More than 80% of the radioactivity from [U- 14 C]glucose metabolised by anaerobic rice seedlings or by excised roots or coleoptiles was recovered as ethanol plus CO 2 ; less than 5% was recovered as water-soluble acidic components. Rates of 14 CO 2 formation from [U- 14 C]glucose were similar in roots and coleoptiles in both N 2 and air ...

Microplastic particles increase arsenic toxicity to rice seedlings

Environmental Pollution, 2020
Hydroponic experiments were conducted to study the effects of microplastic particles of polystyrene (PS) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) on arsenic (As) content in leaves and roots of rice seedlings, and the changes in root vigor and physiological and biochemical indicators under single or combined PS and PTFE with As(III) treatment.

Proteomic Analysis of Rice Seedlings Under Cold Stress

The Protein Journal, 2017
Low temperature can greatly restrict the growth and development of rice. The rice seedlings show growth retardation, lamina wrap, and part of blade even died under the condition of low temperature. In order to get more information about cold stress responses in rice, two dimensional electrophoresis and bioinformatics analysis of mass spectrometry were ...

Proteomic identification of rhythmic proteins in rice seedlings

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Proteins and Proteomics, 2011
Many aspects of plant metabolism that are involved in plant growth and development are influenced by light-regulated diurnal rhythms as well as endogenous clock-regulated circadian rhythms. To identify the rhythmic proteins in rice, periodically grown (12h light/12h dark cycle) seedlings were harvested for three days at six-hour intervals.

Rice BIG gene is required for seedling viability

Journal of Plant Physiology, 2019
Arabidopsis BIG (AtBIG) gene encodes an enormous protein that is required for auxin transport. Loss of AtBIG function not only profoundly changes plant architecture but also alters plant adaptability to environmental stimuli. A putative homolog of AtBIG exists in the rice genome, but no function has been ascribed to it.
