On The Disintegration of Rice Straw

open access: yesOn The Disintegration of Rice Straw
The author has investigated the effects of boiling with water and disintegration with alkaline solutions on the chemical composition and nutritive value of rice straw. The results are summarised as follows. 1) The starch value of the straw in dry matter was about 20%, which agrees with the result of Prof. T. KATAYAMA's experiments. 2) The boiling for 3

Identifying Food Packaging Migrants: Current Analytical Capabilities, Challenges, and Future Prospects

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The migration of intentionally and non‐intentionally added substances (IAS/NIAS) from food packaging into foodstuffs presents a significant challenge to consumer health and food safety. Accurate and comprehensive identification of these chemical migrants is therefore paramount.

Resource Saving and Environmental Benefits From Cooking With Natural Fiber Handcrafted Boxes

open access: yesJournal of Food Process Engineering, Volume 49, Issue 5, May 2026.
Cooking meals in handcrafted boxes is commonly perceived as a more sustainable option than using hobs. This paper conducts a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) that substantiates this assumption, quantitatively demonstrating that meal preparation without the box can lead to significantly higher overall environmental impacts.

High‐Tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication in a Burn Patient With Voicelessness: A Case Study

open access: yesNursing in Critical Care, Volume 31, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Loss of speech due to mechanical ventilation is common among patients admitted to intensive care. This condition, often referred to as voicelessness, can generate negative emotions such as frustration and anger. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) techniques are useful for facilitating communication, but their use can be complex ...

The 2024 European Union report on pesticide residues in food

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Under European Union legislation (Article 32, Regulation (EC) No 396/2005), the European Food Safety Authority publishes an annual report assessing pesticide residue levels in food. In 2024, 9842 samples were analysed as part of the EU‐coordinated multiannual control programme subset, of which 1.2% were found to be non‐compliant.
