The mid-domain effect: It’s not just about space [PDF]
Ecologists and biogeographers have long sought to understand how and why diversity varies across space. Up until the late 20th century, the dominant role of environmental gradients and historical processes in driving geographical species richness ...

Richness-mass relation self-calibration for galaxy clusters
This work attains a threefold objective: first, we derived the richness-mass scaling in the local Universe from data of 53 clusters with individual measurements of mass.

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Orientation bias of optically selected galaxy clusters and its impact on stacked weak-lensing analyses [PDF]
Weak-lensing measurements of the averaged shear profiles of galaxy clusters binned by some proxy for cluster mass are commonly converted to cluster mass estimates under the assumption that these cluster stacks have spherical symmetry.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Effect of physiographical factors on tree species diversity (case study: Kandelat Forest Park) [PDF]
In order to identify the diversity of tree species in relation to physiographic factors (elevation, aspect and slope), the Kandelat Forest Park with an area of 614.85 hectare was surveyed, where is located southeast of Rasht city.

Re-structuring of marine communities exposed to environmental change [PDF]
Species richness is the most commonly used but controversial biodiversity metric in studies on aspects of community stability such as structural composition or productivity.

This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
