Peroxisomal β-oxidation and Production of γ-decalactone by the Yeast Rhodotorula aurantiaca
γ-Decalactone is a fruity aroma compound resulting from the peroxisomal β-oxidation of ricinoleic acid by yeasts. During the β-oxidation of fatty acids, the acyl-CoA oxidase and thioesterase play an important role. In R.

Enzymatic biosynthesis of ricinoleic acid estolides
Candida rugosa lipase has been shown to have sufficient activity to catalyse the enzymatic synthesis of ricinoleic acid estolides in a batch reactor. The water requirements of the reactor change during the reaction: at the beginning of the process a minimum amount of water is necessary but, later, the reaction mixture must be dried out to obtain an ...

New insights on the metabolism of ricinoleic acid in ruminants [PDF]
Dairy goats were fed a total mixed ration with or without the inclusion of castor oil [40 g/kg of dry matter (DM)] to study the metabolism of ricinoleic acid (12-OH,cis-9-18:1). Ten goats, at 39.7 ± 4.0 d in milk, were individually penned and allocated at random to the 2 experimental diets. Goats were manually milked twice a day.
