EFFECT OF INTERCROPPING SYSTEMS AND NITROGEN LEVELS ON CERTAIN CHARACTERS OF SNAP BEAN AND PEPPER. I. EFFECT ON PLANT GROWTH [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Production, 2002
This study was carried out at EI-Baramoon Horticultural Research Farm during summer seasons of 2000 and 2001 to study the effect of some intercropping systems (snap bean intercropped with pepper) and different nitrogen levels on certain growth ...

POM‐Based Water Splitting Catalyst Under Acid Conditions Driven by Its Assembly on Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A newly‐engineered POM‐based electrocatalyst incorporating non‐innocent counter cations exhibits fast kinetics for either the OER or HER under strongly acidic conditions (1 m H2SO4), depending on whether it is assembled on carbon nanotubes (1@CNT) or physically mixed with them (1/CNT). In water‐splitting tests using a two‐electrode setup, these systems

Low-Temperature Hydrothermal Plumes in the Near-Bottom Boundary Layer at Endeavour Segment, Juan de Fuca Ridge [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2012
Low-temperature (typically 5–75°C) fluid, commonly referred to as "diffuse" hydrothermal flow, emanates from fractures over a significant portion of the Juan de Fuca Ridge seafloor in the Northeast Pacific Ocean (Kelley et al., 2012, in this issue ...

Actuation of Cell Layers in Three Dimensions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The alignment of fibers and cells in living tissues affect their mechanical properties and functionality. In this context, one can draw an analogy between tissues and nematic liquid crystal elastomers. We explore this analogy by growing fibroblasts on 2D‐patterned substrates and observing the contraction of cell sheets upon detachment from the

JPEG 2000 CODEC certification guidance for 1000 ppi fingerprint friction ridge imagery

open access: yes, 2015
The document describes the procedure by which applications of JPEG 2000 CODECs will be evaluated with respect to conformance to the NIST guidance for compression of 1000 ppi friction ridge images as detailed in NIST Special Publication 500-289 [NIST3]. The document describes the attributes of a set of fingerprint images selected for conformance testing

Elephant‐Skin‐Inspired Porous Cementitious Tiles with Programmable Crack Networks for Passive Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Elephant‐skin‐inspired crack networks are programmed in porous diatomaceous earth (DE)‐cement composites using substrate‐guided, stress‐concentration induced fracture. The resulting crack lattices act as capillary conduits that redistribute water, while the porous matrix stores moisture.
