The right to food (RTF) was first recognized in Article 25 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR), adopted in 1948. It was further recognized in Article 11 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), adopted in 1966, as an essential component of the right to an adequate standard of living.
