Triple Junctions as Dislocation‐Like Defects: The Role of Grain Boundary Crystallography Revealed by Experiment and Atomistic Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...

Extracellular matrix rigidity controls breast cancer metastasis via TYK2-mediated mechanotransduction

open access: yesNature Communications
Mechanical cues from the extracellular matrix (ECM) regulate various cellular processes. In breast cancer, increased tumor stiffness is associated with elevated metastasis risks and poor survival.

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...

The role of cell-matrix adhesion and cell migration in breast tumor growth and progression

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
During breast cancer progression, there is typically increased collagen deposition resulting in elevated extracellular matrix rigidity. This results in changes to cell-matrix adhesion and cell migration, impacting processes such as the epithelial ...

Data on the mechanobiological differences in the transcriptomes of human fetal and adult dermal fibroblasts in response to extracellular matrix rigidity

open access: yesData in Brief, 2019
Fetal skin is known to proceed through the wound healing process without the formation of scar tissue but rather via regeneration. Fetal dermal fibroblasts have emerged as a significant driving force in this regenerative response due to their unique ...

Hybrid Metal–Carbon Ink for Printed Stretchable Temperature Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We prepare conductive inks for temperature sensing with silver flakes and carbon or graphite flakes in a silicone elastomer matrix. Silver dominates the temperature‐dependent conductivity, while the carbon filler network ensures the stability of the conductive pathways and retains function under strain.

Continuous Stiffness Graded Metal–Ceramic Femoral Stems: UMAT‐Based Design and Finite Element Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Functionally graded metal–ceramic femoral stems are engineered through continuous UMAT‐based stiffness tailoring, eliminating discrete material interfaces while enhancing biomechanical compatibility. Low‐index power‐law gradation optimizes load transfer, reduces stress shielding, and controls implant–bone micromotion, highlighting a materials‐design ...

YAP mediates apoptosis through failed integrin adhesion reinforcement

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Extracellular matrix (ECM) rigidity is a major effector of cell fate decisions. Whereas cell proliferation on stiff matrices, wherein Yes-associated protein (YAP) plays a pivotal role, is well documented, activation of apoptosis in response to ...

Additive Manufacturing of Alumina‐Reinforced Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Vat‐photopolymerized elastomers reinforced with platelet‐shaped alumina exhibited preferential orientation, reduced porosity, and significantly enhanced mechanical performance. A 3 wt% platelet loading increased tensile strength from 12.4 to 45.7 MPa, highlighting the critical role of filler morphology in elastomeric VPP composites.
