Laser Engineering of HfN‐Based Nanoparticles for Safe NIR‐I Photothermal and X‐ray Enhancing Cancer Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we produced HfN‐based nanoparticles via femtosecond laser ablation in acetone. The nanoparticles exhibit a red‐shifted plasmonic resonance in the NIR‐I window, colloidal stability after coating with polyethyleneglycol, and excellent biocompatibility. The photothermal and X‐ray sensitization therapeutic effects were demonstrated for tumor

Nonproductive Events in Ring-Closing Metathesis Using Ruthenium Catalysts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The relative TONs of productive and nonproductive metathesis reactions of diethyl diallylmalonate are compared for eight different ruthenium-based catalysts. Nonproductive cross metathesis is proposed to involve a chain-carrying ruthenium methylidene.

Azaporphyrinoid‐Based Photo‐ and Electroactive Architectures for Advanced Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐standing collaboration between the Torres and Guldi groups has yielded diverse azaporphyrinoid‐based donor‐acceptor nanohybrids with promising applications in solar energy conversion. This conspectus highlights key molecular platforms and structure‐function relationships that govern light and charge management, supporting the rational design of ...

Rapid, two-pot procedure for the synthesis of dihydropyridinones; total synthesis of aza-goniothalamin

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2020
A fast, protecting-group-free synthesis of dihydropyridinones has been developed. Starting from commercially available aldehydes, a novel one-pot amidoallylation gave access to diene compounds in good yields.

A New Ruthenium-Based Olefin Metathesis Catalyst Coordinated with 1,3-Dimesityl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidin-2-ylidene: Synthesis, X-ray Structure, and Reactivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The new ruthenium olefin metathesis catalyst 4 bearing a 5,5‘-dimethyl-1,3-dimesityl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidin-2-ylidene ligand was first synthesized from (PCy_3)_2(Cl)_2Ru ═ CHPh (1).

Rewriting Polymer Fate via Chemomechanical Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a life‐like “living” polymer platform that can grow, degrow, and reprogram its properties after fabrication. By integrating mass transport, reversible polymerization, and controlled catalysis, the material achieves on‐demand changes in size, shape, and mechanical properties.

Consequences of the electronic tuning of latent ruthenium-based olefin metathesis catalysts on their reactivity

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2015
Two ruthenium olefin metathesis initiators featuring electronically modified quinoline-based chelating carbene ligands are introduced. Their reactivity in RCM and ROMP reactions was tested and the results were compared to those obtained with the parent ...

Olefin Metathesis Reaction in Water and in Air Improved by Supramolecular Additives

open access: yesMolecules, 2015
A range of water-immiscible commercially available Grubbs-type precatalysts can be used in ring-closing olefin metathesis reaction in high yields. The synthetic transformation is possible in pure water under ambient conditions.

Low Catalyst Loadings in Olefin Metathesis: Synthesis of Nitrogen Heterocycles by Ring-Closing Metathesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A series of ruthenium catalysts have been screened under ring-closing metathesis (RCM) conditions to produce five-, six-, and seven-membered carbamate-protected cyclic amines. Many of these catalysts demonstrated excellent RCM activity and yields with as

Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Composite Gripper for Adaptive Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A two‐way shape memory polymer (SMP) composite is developed with intrinsic shape‐changing capability driven solely by temperature, eliminating external actuation loads. Embedding the SMP in a low‐stiffness elastomeric matrix enabled reversible transformations during heating and cooling cycles.
