Frequency-Dependent Relationships Between Tree-Ring Series Along an Ecological Gradient and Some Dendroclimatic Implications

open access: yes, 1974
Bristlecone pines were sampled at four sites ranging from the arid lower forest border to the upper treeline in the Snake Range of eastern Nevada. Maximum ring-width response to environmental variation is found at the upper and lower forest limits.

Design and Development of Ultrabroadband, High-Gain, and High-Isolation THz MIMO Antenna with a Complementary Split-Ring Resonator Metamaterial

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
The need for high-speed communication has created a way to design THz antennas that operate at high frequencies, speeds, and data rates. In this manuscript, a THz MIMO antenna is designed using a metamaterial.

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Dependence of tree ring stable isotope abundances and ring width on climate in Finnish oak [PDF]

open access: yesTree Physiology, 2010
We measured ring widths and isotopic abundances of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen (delta(13)C, delta(18)O and delta(2)H) from the latewood of tree rings of pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) in its distributional northern limit in Southern Finland. Ring width was observed to be related to precipitation and relative humidity but not significantly to ...

Extracellular vesicle lipidomics liquid biopsy reveals systemic and tumor microenvironment metabolic reprogramming in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicle (EV) lipidomic profiling of plasma and ascites from patients with high‐grade serous ovarian cancer and of ovarian cancer cell lines reveals enrichment of triglycerides (TGs), diacylglycerols (DGs), phosphatidylcholine (PCs), sphingomyelins (SMs), reflecting tumor metabolic reprogramming.

Tree Ring Width Predicted by Machine Learning

open access: yesEos, 2023
When predicting a tree’s annual growth, consider the whole weather system and not just the sum of its parts.

Tree-ring proxies of larch bud moth defoliation: latewood width and blue intensity are more precise than tree-ring width [PDF]

open access: yesTree Physiology, 2018
Reconstructions of defoliation by larch bud moth (LBM, Zeiraphera diniana Gn.) based on European larch (Larix decidua Mill.) tree rings have unraveled outbreak patterns over exceptional temporal and spatial scales. In this study, we conducted tree-ring analyses on 105 increment cores of European larch from the Valais Alps, Switzerland.

Bridging the gap: a genetically validated avian chorioallantoic membrane platform for investigation of spontaneous circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established the avian chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay as a scalable in vivo model for studying circulating tumor cells (CTCs). Human gastrointestinal tumors spontaneously released genetically validated CTCs that were detected across multiple platforms, demonstrating that the CAM model provides an accessible tool for investigating early cancer ...

Wood Quality of Chestnut: Relationship between Ring Width, Specific Gravity, and Physical and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesBioResources, 2014
This article investigates the relationships between ring width (expressed as ring width class) and cambial age (expressed as chronological class) with specific gravity, modulus of rupture (MOR), compressive strength, and shrinkage.
