Alluvial ridge morphology on avulsing rivers

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Alluvial ridges are built by preferential channel‐belt deposition and control river avulsions, yet a systematic analysis of their morphology has been missing. To address this gap, we analyse a globally distributed dataset of 8970 alluvial ridge flanks on 14 different rivers.

Freshwater Biodiversity Research in Brazil: Trends from a Systematic Review and Topic Modeling

open access: yesInternational Review of Hydrobiology, Volume 111, Issue 2, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Brazil is a megadiverse country that hosts six major biomes and a vast freshwater network. Despite this richness, research on freshwater biodiversity has been heterogeneous across regions, communities, and time, leaving significant knowledge gaps.

Vegetation patterns and processes in riparian landscapes

open access: yes, 2004
The objective of this study was to increase understanding of the processes structuring and controlling the species richness of riparian plant communities. In particular, I examined the unimodal relationship, found in many rivers, between plant species richness and location along the river corridor.

Fish Assemblages in an Urbanized Neotropical Basin: Influence of Environmental Factors Across Dry and Rainy Periods

open access: yesInternational Review of Hydrobiology, Volume 111, Issue 2, December 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of season and environmental disturbances on fish communities in neotropical rivers of the Sorocaba basin, a Sub‐Basin of the Paraná River in Southeast Brazil, based on sampling 1196 individuals from 49 species, including two non‐native and one threatened with extinction.

Sediment Vulnerability Ranking for River Basins Across the Contiguous U.S. Using Integrated Biophysical and Social‐Ecological Data

open access: yesJAWRA Journal of the American Water Resources Association, Volume 62, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Nearly half of streams and rivers in the United States (U.S.) have fair to poor conditions for aquatic ecosystem health as declared by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and sediment was identified as a primary factor impairing these waterbodies.

Exploring the significance of Kenya's indigenous and emerging blue foods for sustainable aquaculture development. A review

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract Kenya's aquaculture sector is at a pivotal stage, transitioning from a historical reliance on Nile tilapia and African catfish toward a more diversified production portfolio that integrates indigenous and emerging freshwater and marine species. This shift is increasingly recognized as essential to enhance climate resilience, food security, and
