Using the Difference Between Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate by Cystatin C and Creatinine to Improve Mortality Risk Prediction in Elderly Patients With CKD in the HUNT Study

open access: yesKidney Medicine
Rationale & Objective: The discrepancy in estimated glomerular filtration rate by cystatin C (eGFRcys) versus creatinine (eGFRcr) has been used as a surrogate for sarcopenia.

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

The Validity of Claims-Based Risk Estimation in Underinsured Populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Objectives: To demonstrate a threat to validity in using claims-based risk tools with chronically ill, underinsured populations. Study Design: We tracked disease burden of highrisk pool beneficiaries with potentially disabling health conditions receiving

Development and validation of a prediction tool to optimize antenatal corticosteroid timing in patients at risk of spontaneous preterm birth

open access: yesPregnancy
Introduction The objective of this study was to develop and validate a preterm birth (PTB) prediction model to optimize the timing of antenatal corticosteroid (ACS) administration in patients at risk of spontaneous PTB.

Evaluation of coronary risk score applications in 10-year coronary heart risk estimation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Biochemistry, 2009
Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial disease with risk factors that have multiple effects. In the identification and treatment of asymptomatic individuals at high risk for developing coronary heart disease (CHD) different risk scoring schemes are used in ...

Safety of Daprodustat for the Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease Anemia: Final Analysis of a Multicenter Postmarketing Surveillance Study in Japan

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This final analysis of a multicenter, prospective postmarketing surveillance study evaluated the safety of daprodustat in patients with chronic kidney disease anemia in routine clinical practice in Japan. Methods Patients who initiated daprodustat between September 2020 and July 2022 were registered.

LAND ALLOCATION IN THE PRESENCE OF ESTIMATION RISK [PDF]

open access: yes
Estimation risk occurs when parameters relevant for decision making are uncertain. Bayes'Â’ criterion is consistent with expected-utility maximization in the presence of estimation risk.

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Portfolio Risk Assessment under Dynamic (Equi)Correlation and Semi-Nonparametric Estimation: An Application to Cryptocurrencies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The semi-nonparametric (SNP) modeling of the return distribution has been proved to be a flexible and accurate methodology for portfolio risk management that allows two-step estimation of the dynamic conditional correlation (DCC) matrix. For this SNP-DCC

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
