Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Incorporating compound temporal precipitation dynamics to enhance landslide susceptibility modeling

open access: yesnpj Natural Hazards
Precipitation plays a crucial role in landslides, which most studies have disregarded the impact of compound temporal precipitation. Here, we developed models that incorporate compound temporal precipitation, constructed by jointly characterizing long ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Global land system maps at 1 km resolution for 1.5 °C climate

open access: yesScientific Data
Climate pledges are a key pathway for achieving temperature control but also exert profound cascading effects on the global Earth system. Evaluating such cascading effects often requires land change forecast products.

Towards a diversification of Flood Risk Management in Europe: a reflection on meta-governance challenges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Because of climate change, extreme weather events and urban sprawl, urban areas have to deal with increasing flood risks. It is argued, both in literature and in practice that these risks can no longer be dealt with by focusing solely on flood defences ...
