Assessment of the Risk of Bias
2021Biases (systematic errors or deviations from the truth) can result in under-estimation or over-estimation of results. If the studies included in the systematic review have a low risk of bias (ROB), the evidence is more likely to be reliable, and vice versa.

[Risk of bias assessment: (8) Risk of Bias in Systematic Review (ROBIS)].
Zhonghua liu xing bing xue za zhi = Zhonghua liuxingbingxue zazhi, 2023This paper introduces the Risk of Bias in Systematic Review (ROBIS), including: 1) the development of ROBIS, 2) three phases of ROBIS tool judging the overall risk of bias that related to systematic reviews, and 3) illustration on the application of ROBIS in a published systematic review.

Evaluating the Risk of Bias of a Study
Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice, 2015This first article of a series of 4 is aimed at guiding dental practitioners on how to evaluate the internal validity (risk of bias,) of randomized controlled trials (RCT). All RCT's contain different areas and potential sources of bias. Understanding risk of bias (ROB) will allow dental practitioners to improve the quality of dental treatments. The ...

Assessment of the risk of bias in rehabilitation reviews
International Journal of Rehabilitation Research, 2012Systematic reviews are used to inform practice, and develop guidelines and protocols. A questionnaire to quantify the risk of bias in systematic reviews, the review paper assessment (RPA) tool, was developed and tested. A search of electronic databases provided a data set of review articles that were then independently reviewed by two assessors using ...

Selection Bias in TEFRA At-Risk HMOs
Medical Care, 1991The issue of selection bias was investigated using data from 22 HMOs who are enrolling Medicare beneficiaries under Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982 (TEFRA) at-risk contracts. The study differs from previously published analyses of this issue in that it deals with the current Medicare risk program (TEFRA) rather than with earlier ...

[Risk of bias assessment: (9) Application of the risk of bias assessment results].
Zhonghua liu xing bing xue za zhi = Zhonghua liuxingbingxue zazhi, 2019In this last paper of the series about risk of bias assessment, we introduce the application of risk of bias assessment results. Risk of bias assessment is one of the key steps in the assessment of quality of evidence. The risk of bias assessment results could be the "diagnosis" of individual studies, which helps decision making related to the ...

Risk of bias across study designs
Ugeskrift for LægerBias means a systematic error and is a problem in research. Several bias tools are available, which are specific and depend on the study design. There are four overall categories of bias: selection bias, information bias, reporting bias, and other bias.

This document contains the results of the assessment of bias risk and methodological quality of the studies included in this systematic review. The assessment was conducted using three instruments: the modified Newcastle–Ottawa Scale for cross-sectional studies (NOS-xs), the AXIS checklist, and the JBI checklist, with scoring, quality categories (low ...

Bias of a Value-at-Risk estimator
Finance Research Letters, 2004Abstract We develop the analytical second-order bias of a Value-at-Risk estimator based on an ARCH(1) volatility specification when the parameters are estimated by the method of quasi maximum likelihood. We show that the bias results from two sources: assumption on the distribution of the standardized residuals and the parameter estimation error.
