Arabidopsis RIBOSOMAL RNA PROCESSING7 Is Required for 18S rRNA Maturation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Cell, 2018
Ribosome biogenesis is fundamental to growth and development in eukaryotes and is linked to human diseases and cancer. Arabidopsis thaliana MORPHOLOGY OF ARGONAUTE1-52 SUPPRESSED 2 (MAS2) participates in splicing and 45S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) expression.

Optimal eukaryotic 18S and universal 16S/18S ribosomal RNA primers and their application in a study of symbiosis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Eukaryotic 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene primers that feature a wide coverage are critical in detecting the composition of eukaryotic microscopic organisms in ecosystems.

Wheat embryo mitochondrial 18S ribosomal RNA: evidence for its prokaryotic nature

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1977
We present a catalog of sequences of oligonucleotides produced by T1 ribonuclease digestion of 32P-labeled small-ribosomal-subunit RNA ("18S rRNA) isolated from purified wheat embryo mitochondria. This catalog is compared to catalogs published for prokaryotic and chloroplast 16S rRNAs and to preliminary results for wheat cytosol 18S rRNA.

The emerging importance of METTL5-mediated ribosomal RNA methylation

open access: yesExperimental and Molecular Medicine, 2022
The study of the epitranscriptome has thus far focused largely on mRNA methylation. Recent human genetics studies suggest that methylation of ribosomal RNA also contributes to brain development and cognition.

The 18S ribosomal RNA m6A methyltransferase Mettl5 is required for normal walking behavior in Drosophila

open access: yesEMBO Reports, 2020
RNA modifications have recently emerged as an important layer of gene regulation. N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prominent modification on eukaryotic messenger RNA and has also been found on noncoding RNA, including ribosomal and small nuclear RNA.

Widespread genetic heterogeneity of human ribosomal RNA genes

open access: yesRNA: A publication of the RNA Society, 2022
Polymorphism drives survival under stress and provides adaptability. Genetic polymorphism of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes derives from internal repeat variation of this multicopy gene, and from interindividual variation.

Site-specific methylation of 18S ribosomal RNA by SNORD42A is required for Acute Myeloid Leukemia cell proliferation.

open access: yesBlood, 2020
Non-coding RNAs including small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) play important roles in leukemogenesis but the relevant mechanisms remain incompletely understood.

PEMA: a flexible Pipeline for Environmental DNA Metabarcoding Analysis of the 16S/18S ribosomal RNA, ITS, and COI marker genes

open access: yesGigaScience, 2020
Background Environmental DNA and metabarcoding allow the identification of a mixture of species and launch a new era in bio- and eco-assessment. Many steps are required to obtain taxonomically assigned matrices from raw data.

Probing small ribosomal subunit RNA helix 45 acetylation across eukaryotic evolution

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2021
NAT10 is an essential enzyme that catalyzes the formation of N4-acetylcytidine (ac4C) in eukaryotic transfer RNA (tRNA) and 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Recent studies in human cells suggested that rRNA acetylation is dependent on SNORD13, a non-canonical ...
