Summary A specific binding test (incorporation into E. coli ribosomal subunits reconstituted from lithium cores and lithium supernatant) was used to assay the degree of structural homology between 5S RNA molecules from different origins. The two procaryotic molecules tested are recognized to some extent by the system, but none of the six eukaryotic ...

The conformation of loop E of eukaryotic 5S ribosomal RNA
Biochemistry, 1993The solution structure of a 27-nucleotide duplex, including the internal loop E from Xenopus laevis 5S ribosomal RNA, has been studied by two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, followed by restrained molecular dynamics. The highly conserved internal loop closes to form a G.A base pair and a reverse-Hoogsteen A.U base pair.

The nucleotide sequence of the 5S ribosomal RNA from a photobacterium
Journal of Molecular Evolution, 1975Comparative sequencing studies provide powerful insights into molecular function and evolution. The sequence for 5S ribosomal RNA from Photobacter strain 8265 is eighteen base replacements removed from that of Escherichia coli. Of these, the vast majority involve a G or C becoming an A or U.

The release of 5S RNA from reticulocyte ribosomes
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1970Abstract Reticulocyte ribosomes were dissociated under various conditions and the release of 5S RNA was assayed. The 5S RNA was released from ribosomes suspended in Tris buffer, pH 9.5, containing EDTA or in Tris buffer, pH 9.5, after dialysis against the same buffer.

The location of 5S (ribosomal) RNA genes in Drosophila hydei
Chromosoma, 1975The location of the 5S ribosomal RNA cistrons in band 2-23B1,2 of the polytene (salivary gland) chromosomes of Drosophila hydei was indicated by in situ hybridization of tritiated low molecular weight RNA fractionated from total in vivo synthesized larval RNA or from in vitro synthesized salivary gland RNA and competition of the hybridization of this ...

Photoregulation of transfer and 5S ribosomal RNA synthesis in Chlorella
Planta, 1977The effect of blue and red light on the synthesis of transfer and 5S ribosomal RNA in autotrophic cultures of Chlorella pyrenoidosa was studied by pulse labeling experiments with tritiated guanosine. Compared with darkness or red light (679 nm), blue light (457 nm) of low intensities (quantum flux: 0.5-5×10(-10) mol photons cm(-2) s(-1)) stimulated ...

The nucleotide sequence of ribosomal 5S RNA from sorrel
Biochimie, 1996The nucleotide sequence of ribosomal 5S RNA from sorrel (Rumex acetosa) was determined. This sequence shows the highest homology to Chenopodiaceae and Cruciferae ribosomal 5S RNA when compared to other dicotyledones' 5S rRNA.

Analysis of Transfer RNA and 5S Ribosomal RNA
1997Analysis of RNA molecules is an area of great interest in the biological and medical sciences. RNA molecules are extremely versatile being able to act as templates for protein biosynthesis, catalyse enzyme-like reactions, and direct their own self-replication [1].

5 S RNA of Chironomus thummi larvae was purified from total phenol extracted RNA by gel filtration and labelled to about 10(7) dpm/mug with carrier-free iodine-125. After hybridization in situ of 125I-5 S RNA and autoradiography only region B3c-e (containing two "normal" and two very faint bands) of chromosome II of salivary gland cells was highly ...

Reconstitution of 50S Ribosomal Subunits and the Role of 5S RNA
1973Bacterial 30S ribosomal subunits can be reconstituted from 16S ribosomal RNA and about 21 30S ribosomal proteins (1,2). The reconstituted 30S subunits have physical properties, protein composition, and functional capability almost identical to those of the original 30S subunits.
