Multistage unfolding of wheat germ ribosomal 5S RNA analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry.
Biochemistry, 1985Unfolding of purified wheat germ ribosomal RNA has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) from 15 to 95 degrees C, in the presence and absence of 100 mM NaCl and/or 10 mM MgCl2.

The nucleotide sequence in wheat embryo ribosomal 5S RNA that binds by complementary base pairing to ribosomal 18S RNA has been identified. The 5S--18S RNA complex was formed in vitro and the interacting regions of the two RNA chains were isolated by a ...

Comparative studies on bacterial 5S ribosomal RNA
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1973Abstract The 5S rRNAs of Escherichia coli , Bacillus stearothermophilus , and B. subtilis were isolated and their molecular conformation examined. All three 5S rRNAs were similar with regard to nucleotide chain length, base composition and general configuration.

Transcription of Xenopus 5S ribosomal RNA genes [PDF]
The accurate transcription of 5S RNA genes when injected into the nucleus of Xenopus oocytes or when added to an in vitro transcription system has allowed identification of the DNA sequences and one of the protein factors required for 5S RNA synthesis.

The ribosomal 5S RNA gene from E. coli was altered by oligonucleotide-directed mutagenesis at positions A66 and U103. The mutant genes were cloned into an expression vector and selectively transcribed in an UV-sensitive E.

The Evolutionary History of the Structure of 5S Ribosomal RNA
Journal of Molecular Evolution, 20095S rRNA is the smallest nucleic acid component of the large ribosomal subunit, contributing to ribosomal assembly, stability, and function. Despite being a model for the study of RNA structure and RNA-protein interactions, the evolution of this universally conserved molecule remains unclear. Here, we explore the history of the three-domain structure of

Three distinct G.U base pairs in Bacillus subtilis 5S RNA have been identified via homonuclear Overhauser enhancements (NOE) of their low-field (9-15 ppm) proton Fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonances at 11.75 T.

The nucleotide sequence of chicken 5S ribosomal RNA
Journal of Molecular Evolution, 1974The nucleotide sequence of the 5S ribosomal RNA of somatic cells of the chicken (Gallus gallus) differs from that of other vertebrates thus far examined. Besides base substitutions, alterations include two nucleotide deletions and two additions.

The involvement of 5S RNA in the binding of tRNA to ribosomes
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1973Abstract The tRNA fragment TpψpCpGp was found to bind to 5S RNA. This binding is ten times increased when a specific 5S RNA-protein complex is used. The ability of TpψpCpGp to bind to the complex could be abolished by selective chemical modification of two adenines in 5S RNA.
