Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Basroparib inhibits YAP‐driven cancers by stabilizing angiomotin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Basroparib, a selective tankyrase inhibitor, suppresses Wnt signaling and attenuates YAP‐driven oncogenic programs by stabilizing angiomotin. It promotes AMOT–YAP complex formation, enforces cytoplasmic YAP sequestration, inhibits YAP/TEAD transcription, and sensitizes YAP‐active cancers, including KRAS‐mutant colorectal cancer, to MEK inhibition.

Degradation of Hypomodified tRNA\u3csub\u3ei\u3c/sub\u3e\u3csup\u3eMet\u3c/sup\u3e in vivo Involves RNA-dependent ATPase Activity of the DExH Helicase Mtr4p [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Effective turnover of many incorrectly processed RNAs in yeast, including hypomodified tRNAi Met, requires the TRAMP complex, which appends a short poly(A) tail to RNA designated for decay. The poly(A) tail stimulates degradation by the exosome.

Ubiquitous RNA-dependent RNA polymerase and gene silencing [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2009
The discovery of a novel RNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity with a eukaryote-wide distribution raises new questions about the roles and mechanisms of gene silencing by small RNAs.

Interplay between RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures in gene regulation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Methodological advances in mapping transcriptome‐wide RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures have started to uncover the potential of RNP conformations in gene regulation. Competing RNA–RNA, RNA‐protein and protein–protein interactions shape the compaction and function of RNPs throughout their lifetime and may provide novel therapeutic targets in ...

Overexpression of CDT1 inhibits cell cycle progression at S phase by interacting with the mini‐chromosome maintenance complex and causes DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CDT1 is an essential protein for DNA replication licensing that loads the MCM complex, the eukaryotic replicative DNA helicase, onto replication origins. Overexpression of CDT1 induces cell cycle arrest at the S phase. Here we showed CDT1 inhibits the progression of replication forks by interacting with the MCM complex, leading to the stalling and ...

Characterization of susceptibility variants of poliovirus grown in the presence of favipiravir

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology, Immunology and Infection, 2018
Background: T-705 (favipiravir) is a potent inhibitor of RNA-dependent RNA polymerases of influenza viruses and no favipiravir-resistant virus has been isolated.

Alternative polyadenylation couples to transcription initiation: Insights from ELAV-mediated 3' UTR extension

open access: yes, 2015
Transcription initiation and mRNA maturation were long considered co-occurring but separately regulated events of gene control. In the past decade, gene promoters, the platforms of transcription initiation, have been assigned additional functions such as
