Bionanomaterials from plant viruses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Plant virus capsids have emerged as useful biotemplates for material synthesis. All plant virus capsids are assembled with high-precision, three-dimensional structures providing nanoscale architectures that are highly monodisperse, can be produced in ...

Viruses and RNA silencing

open access: yesUirusu, 2008
Small RNAs play a critical role in the regulation of gene expression in diverse cellular processes. This mechanism, termed RNA silencing or RNAi, also functions as a defense mechanism against molecular parasites such as virus and transposon. Whereas RNA silencing is triggered by viral infection, viruses suppress RNA silencing to establish infection ...

Microbiome composition modulates the lethal outcome of Drosophila A virus infection

open access: yesCellular and Molecular Life Sciences
Host-associated microbiomes can strongly influence viral infection outcomes, yet how minor variations in commensal bacterial composition modulate viral pathogenesis remain poorly understood.

Oyster RNA-seq data support the development of Malacoherpesviridae genomics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The family of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) Malacoherpesviridae includes viruses able to infect marine mollusks and detrimental for worldwide aquaculture production. Due to fast-occurring mortality and a lack of permissive cell lines, the available data on

Innate Immune Evasion by Human Respiratory RNA Viruses

open access: yesJournal of Innate Immunity, 2019
The impact of respiratory virus infections on the health of children and adults can be very significant. Yet, in contrast to most other childhood infections as well as other viral and bacterial diseases, prophylactic vaccines or effective antiviral ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Intranasal bovine/human parainfluenza virus 3 vaccine candidates expressing human metapneumovirus wild-type or pre-fusion F protein elicit protective immunity against human metapneumovirus in hamsters

open access: yesJournal of Virology
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) and human parainfluenza virus 3 (HPIV3) are among the leading causes of severe pediatric respiratory illness worldwide, and there are no licensed vaccines.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
