An overview of applied robust methods
British Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, 2021Data in social sciences are typically non‐normally distributed and characterized by heavy tails. However, most widely used methods in social sciences are still based on the analyses of sample means and sample covariances. While these conventional methods continue to be used to address new substantive issues, conclusions reached can be inaccurate or ...

Robust numerical methods for robust control
2004We present numerical methods for the solution of the optimal $H_{\infty}$ control problem. In particular, we investigate the iterative part often called the $\gamma$-iteration. We derive a method with better robustness in the presence of rounding errors than other existing methods.

On a Robustness of The Random Particle Method
Monte Carlo Methods and Applications, 1996Summary: We are concerned with the robustness of the so-called random particle methods that have been recognized as efficient tool for the numerical analysis of nonlinear diffusions. Among these, we take the random gradient method due to \textit{E. G. Puckett} [Math. Comput. 52, No.

A robust video watermarking method
2000 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo. ICME2000. Proceedings. Latest Advances in the Fast Changing World of Multimedia (Cat. No.00TH8532), 2002We propose a new watermarking method to embed a label in a video which is robust against the change of the group of picture. The proposed method embeds labels in the pixel domain, but detects them in the DCT frequency domain. A lookup table of the unique relationship between the pixel patterns and their sign sequences of eight low DCT coefficients is ...

A robust ECG steganography method
2016 10th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT), 2016ECG steganography hides patient's confidential data into their Electrocardiogram during transmission/storage of medical records, in order to ensure protection of patient privacy. Efficiency of a steganography method can be estimated using imperceptibility and robustness of hidden data which are estimated using Peak Signal to Noise Ratio and Bit Error ...

A robust method for the recognition of palmprints
2017 14th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Video and Signal Based Surveillance (AVSS), 2017Palmprint recognition has received in the last 20 years a great deal of the research community's attention. In this paper a new palmprint matching approach based on corner feature point extraction is proposed. A 72-element fixed-length descriptor is used to capture distinctive information of each feature point neighborhood and to build a measure of ...

Robust Methods for Compositional Data
2010Many practical data sets in environmental sciences, official statistics and various other disciplines are in fact compositional data because only the ratios between the variables are informative. Compositional data are represented in the Aitchison geometry on the simplex, and for applying statistical methods designed for the Euclidean geometry they ...

A Robust Face Detection Method
Third International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG'04), 2005A new face detection method based on learning is proposed in this paper, it has three properties: first, it uses not only the local facial feature but also the global facial feature to design weak classifiers, a new kind of global facial feature called as the unified average face feature (UAFF) is proposed; second, it uses two kinds of rectangle ...
