Numerical Modelling of Steep Slopes in Open Rock Quarries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The key question regarding steep rock slopes along rock quarries is their stability because a rock slope failure can have critical results. In this study, the aim is to investigate the areas with potential risk for jointed karstic limestones in a rock ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Rapid sequestration of rock avalanche deposits within glaciers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Topographic development in mountainous landscapes is a complex interplay between tectonics, climate and denudation. Glaciers erode valleys to generate headwall relief, and hillslope processes control the height and retreat of the peaks.

A FEM-DEM numerical analysis to study the instability of the Passo della Morte slopes (Carnian Alps, Italy) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The natural formation of rock slopes can result in the initiation of complex failure processes, including the deformation and fracturing of intact rock and the displacement of large individual blocks.

Gait Analysis of Pak Biawak: A Necrobot Lizard Built using the Skeleton of an Asian Water Monitor (Varanus Salvator)

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Pak Biawak, a necrobot, embodies an unusual fusion of biology and robotics. Designed to repurpose natural structures after death, it challenges conventional boundaries between nature and engineering. Its movements are precise yet unsettling, raising questions about sustainability, ethics, and the untapped potential of biointegrated machines.

Stability of rock on mild slopes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Until now, an extensive design method for mild slopes has not been available. The aim of this thesis is to understand the stability of rock on mild slopes under wave attack for impermeable cores in order to optimize designs.
