Estimating in situ rock mass strength and elastic modulus of granite from the Soultz-sous-Forêts geothermal reservoir (France)

open access: yesGeothermal Energy, 2018
Knowledge of the strength and elastic modulus of a reservoir rock is important for the optimisation of a particular geothermal resource. The reservoir rock for many geothermal projects in the Upper Rhine Graben, such as those at Soultz-sous-Forêts and ...

The influence of the lithological and geotechnical properties of rocks on the morphology of glacial valleys

open access: yes, 2013
The glacial valley cross-profile has traditionally had its development attrituted to the physical properties of the eroding glacier, with the input of the properties of the eroded rock mass to the development of the valley system considered in a purely ...

Muscle Control of an Extra Robotic Digit

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study compares muscle‐ and movement‐based control for operating a supernumerary robotic thumb. While movement control performs better in the proposed tasks, muscle‐based (EMG) control promotes broader motor learning. The results highlight the promise and challenges of using biosignals for human augmentation, offering new insights into intuitive ...

Experimental and Numerical Simulations on the Mechanical Characteristics of Soil–Rock Mixture in Uniaxial Compression

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Soil–rock mixture is a common geo-material found in natural deposit slopes and various constructions, such as tunnels, hydropower stations, and subgrades. The complex mechanical characteristics of soil–rock mixture arise from its multi-phase compositions

Uniaxial compressive strength measurements of limestone plugs and cores : a size comparison and X-ray CT study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In many geo-engineering fields, the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of a rock material is the parameter most commonly used to define a rock's mechanical strength.

Grip and Grasp: Lizard Claw Inspired Robotic Manipulators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Our study identifies the most effective lizard claw shape for use as an end effector in a bioinspired robotic manipulator. By examining key geometric features and combining them into comparative indices, the Crotaphytus collaris claw is found to be the best fit.

Three-dimensional strength criterion for rocks: A review

open access: yesEnergy Reviews
Deep rocks are typically under a true-triaxial stress state. The strength of deep rock is thus dictated by both the direction and magnitude of principal stresses.

Cross‐Scale Hierarchical Targeted Delivery System Based on Small‐Scale Magnetic Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article reviews a cross‐scale hierarchical targeted delivery system that integrates magnetic continuum robots and magnetic microrobots. By combining rapid long‐range navigation with precise microscale targeting, the system overcomes key limitations of single‐scale approaches.
