Translational Considerations for Injectable Biomaterials and Bioscaffolds to Repair and Regenerate Brain Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The repair and regeneration of brain tissue faces both biological and technical challenges. Injectable bioscaffolds offer new opportunities to stimulate tissue regrowth in the brain by recruiting neural stem cells. Here, the translational issues are reviewed that need to be address to advance this promising new therapeutic approach from the bench to ...

Ultrasensitive Detection of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus Infections Using Multivalent DNA Nanostructure‐Enabled Lateral Flow Assay

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A multivalent DNA nanostructure‐enabled lateral flow assay was developed for rapid, ultrasensitive detection of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) nucleocapsid protein. Designer net‐shaped DNA nanostructures (DNA‐Net) presenting PEDV‐specific aptamers achieved ~1000‐fold enhanced binding, enabling detection of viral copies with Ct ≤ 37.42 within 10

A Long‐Lived Human Neurovascular PENTA Culture Model Captures Incomplete Vascular Repair and Glia‐Associated Signaling After Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐lived, five‐cell‐type human neurovascular (PENTA) model recreates vascular disorganization and incomplete repair after traumatic brain injury (TBI). By integrating endothelial, glial, neuronal, and immune components within a 3D scaffold, the platform enables time‐resolved analysis of neurovascular remodeling and provides a human‐relevant system ...

A Community-Based Surveillance on Determinants of Rodent Infestation

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003
Rodent infestation is an important factor in the transmission of infectious diseases of public health importance. From October to November 1998, surveillance stations were established in 110 boroughs of Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan.

Rodent pest management in East Africa—an ecological approach

open access: yes, 1999
Rodent Pest Management in East AfricaRodents are by far the greatest vertebrate pest problem in East Africa. They are responsible for substantial damage to food and cash crops, structures and industrial and domestic property.

Gellan Gum Fluid Gel System for Controlled‐Delivery of Cytokine‐Licensed MSC‐EVs to Enhance Corneal Repair in Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gellan gum fluid gel (FG) enables controlled ocular delivery of mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)‐derived extracellular vesicles (EV). Its shear‐thinning, solid‐liquid‐solid rheology ensures prolonged ocular retention. Sustained MSC‐EV release (∼18% in 6 hrs) supports effective EV ocular delivery.

Inherited Prion Diseases and Transmission to Rodents

open access: yesBrain Pathology, 1995
Clinico‐pathological phenotypes of patients with prion diseases were compared with their PrP genotyes and transmission rate to mice. Sporadic and iatrogenic CJD patients without mutation and familial CJD patients with E200K showed uniform clinico‐pathological features, synaptic‐type deposition of PrPCJD and high rate of transmission of the disease to ...

Localized Temperature Monitoring in Mouse Brain during Light Delivery via a Non‐Planar Tapered Fiber‐Integrated µRTD Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report a multifunctional tapered optical fiber integrating a conformal micro‐resistance temperature detector (µRTD) for local, real‐time thermometry during optical stimulation. The platform combines light‐delivery and temperature sensing within a minimally invasive footprint, enabling detection of sub‐degree cortical heating under representative ...
