Interlocking Rogowski coils: a fool's transformer

Proceedings of Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements Digest, 2002
We have constructed interlocking, air-core, toroidally-wound solenoids. In principle, there should be no coupling between these Rogowski coils (in the absence of return loop and capacitive effects). We have searched for a mutual inductance between two such interlocking coils and report preliminary results. >

Design of Accurate Rogowski Coil for High Transient Currents

2019 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2019
This paper deals with the design and construction of accurate Rogowski coils for the measurement of high transient currents. By means of the mutual partial inductance method, the shape of cylindrical structures applicable to the coil is analytically derived to ensure a given accuracy of the transducer, independently of the position, tilt and path of ...

Characterization and Error Compensation of a Rogowski Coil in the Presence of Harmonics

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2011
This paper reports the results of an experimental study dealing with a commercial Rogowski coil current transducer (RCCT) in the presence of harmonic distortion. The RCCT was observed under two conditions: 1) sinusoidal excitation with frequencies from 50 to 750 Hz and 2) nonsinusoidal excitation using fundamental frequency and one harmonic, with ...

Analysis of Rogowski Coil with Passive Compensation

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
The influences of the position of the primary conductor to the mutual inductance of a test Rogowski coil were studied. The test results show that the deviation of the mutual inductances can not be neglected. Manufacturing variations affect the mutual inductance much and make the coils have bad interchangeability.

Voltage profiles and closures on Rogowski coils

IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 2002
The voltage profiles along Rogowski coils are calculated, and three alternative ways of closing the loop are compared. In plane layouts the induced voltage is uniformly distributed with respect to the angle subtended at the measured current, but is not uniform along the coil length.

Performance of Rogowski coils at higher frequencies

2010 30th International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2010
Rogowski coil plays an important role in the measurement of lightning impulse currents both in tall towers and high voltage circuits. In many applications, the operational requirements could force the coil to its upper frequency limit. Coil's response under such a condition is not that well known.

The use of rogowski coils in current measurement

2014 17th International Symposium on Electromagnetic Launch Technology, 2014
Rogowski coils are the most commonly used current sensors used in EM launcher research. They are low cost, have a wide range of sensitivity and very high bandwidth. They are also easy to install on in-situ conductors and provide isolation from the power circuit.

Studies of a slow-wave Rogowski coil

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 1990
A Rogowski coil in a conducting shield can be considered as a slow-wave transmission line. By carefully constructing the slow-wave structure in such a way that the distributed capacitance becomes large (on the order of nF) and the coil inductance is at least several microhenries, it is possible to obtain a high-sensitivity ( equivalent to 1 V/A ...

Study of Measuring Error of Rogowski Coil

2019 Photonics & Electromagnetics Research Symposium - Fall (PIERS - Fall), 2019
Electronic current transformer (ECT) is widely used in test and measuring. As a key part of ECT, Rogowski coil should be installed correctly to give a precise measurement. Thus, we give qualitative and quantitative analysis on some situation that may influence the measuring accuracy and use Maxwell to verify it.

A Calibrating Device for Rogowski Coil Development

Plasma Science and Technology, 2007
A calibrating device for the Rogowski coil is developed, which can be used to calibrate the Rogowski coil having a partial response time within tens of nanoseconds. Its key component is a step current generator, which can generate the output with a rise time of less than 2 ns and a duration of larger than 300 ns.
