Room Temperature Ionic Liquids
2016Room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) melt below 100 oC and in this book only commonly available, i.e., aprotic ones, are dealt with, but the properties of two atypical protic ones are shown. The structural aspects of RTILs as derived from diffraction studies and computer simulations, and the modelling of the properties of RTILs are dealt with.

Electrocatalysis in Room Temperature Ionic Liquids
2015Electrocatalytic reactions are those in which the reaction rate is sensitive to the nature of the electrode material. Such reactions, which include the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR), and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), often play key roles in electrochemical energy conversion and have been studied for decades ...

The fluidity of room temperature ionic liquids
Fluid Phase Equilibria, 2014Abstract The fluidities, Φ = η−1, of room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) as functions of the temperature can be described in terms of the Hildebrand and Lamoreaux approach. This relates the (temperature dependent) fluidity to the (temperature dependent) molar volume V of the RTIL: Φ = B[(V − V0)/V0].

Solvation of Carbon Nanotubes in a Room-Temperature Ionic Liquid
ACS Nano, 2009Single- and double-walled carbon nanotubes in the armchair configuration solvated in the room-temperature ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMI+BF4−) are studied via molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulations. Cations and anions show smeared-out, cylindrical shell-like distributions outside of the nanotubes irrespective of ...

Photoreduction of Benzophenones by Amines in Room-Temperature Ionic Liquids
Organic Letters, 2002[reaction: see text] The amine-mediated photoreduction of benzophenones in room temperature ionic liquids was investigated. Unlike the analogous reaction in organic solvents, the photoreduction produces mainly the corresponding benzhydrol in most cases.

Manipulating Solute Nucleophilicity with Room Temperature Ionic Liquids
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2004In this work we report the effect of ionic liquids on a class of charge-neutral nucleophiles. We have studied the reactions of (n)butylamine, di-(n)butylamine, and tri-(n)butylamine with methyl p-nitrobenzenesulfonate in [bmpy][N(Tf)(2)], [bmpy][OTf], and [bmim][OTf] (bmpy = 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium; bmim = 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium) and ...

Room Temperature Ionic Liquids: a
2011Ionic liquids (ILs) are attracting increasing interest as a potential ecosustainable alternative to traditional volatile organic solvents (VOCs), generally used in large amounts. About the greenness of ILs a certain controversy still exists because their toxicity and biodegradability need to be fully assessed.

Electrogenerated Radical Anions in Room-Temperature Ionic Liquids
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2005The sequential two-electron reduction of benzaldehyde to the radical anion and dianion species in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium triflimide and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium triflimide is reported. In 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium triflimide, the heterogeneous electrochemistry and follow-up chemical reactivity are essentially equivalent to that in ...

Self‐Assembled Structure in Room‐Temperature Ionic Liquids
Chemistry – A European Journal, 2005AbstractSelf‐assembled vesicles, structurally equivalent to some hydrotropes, have been obtained from a Zn2+–fluorous surfactant or in the mixture of Zn2+–fluorous surfactant/zwitterionic surfactant in room‐temperature ionic liquids (RTILs). The existence of bilayers arranged in vesicles in RTILs would be very exciting, open several new possibilities ...

Spectroscopic Studies on Tetracycline in Room-Temperature Ionic Liquids
Journal of Natural Products, 2011Circular dichroism and steady-state fluorescence of tetracycline (1) were investigated in a series of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium room-temperature ionic liquids. The identity of the anion of the ionic liquids was found to modulate the conformation as well as the emission intensity of tetracycline over a wide range.
