Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Chromatin and Arabidopsis root development

open access: yesSeminars in Cell & Developmental Biology, 2008
During development cells transit through different states as they pass from stem cell to terminally differentiated cell. There is evidence that the transition from one state to another can be accompanied by changes in epigenetic state of genes, which is embodied in chromatin state. Here we give an overview of the changes in chromatin that accompany the

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

ESTRESSE OXIDATIVO EM CÉLULAS VEGETAIS MEDIANTE ALELOQUÍMICOS OXIDATIVE STRESS IN VEGETABLE CELLS MEDIATED BY ALLELOCHEMICALS

Development and implementation of preventive-maintenance practices in Nigerian industries.

open access: yes, 2006
A methodology for the development of PM using the modern approaches of FMEA, root-cause analysis, and fault-tree analysis is presented. Applying PM leads to a cost reduction in maintenance and less overall energy expenditure.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The use of fluensulfone for the control of root-knot nematodes in greenhouse cultivated crops: Efficacy and phytotoxicity effects

open access: yesCogent Food & Agriculture, 2019
A recently released non-fumigant nematicide, fluensulfone, belonging to the fluoroalkenyl chemical group, fluensulfone, was tested against field populations of root-knot nematodes Meloidogyne sp. in commercial cucumber and tomato greenhouses.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Genome-Wide Analysis of the ABCB Family and Its Expression in Adventitious Root Development of Paeonia ostii

open access: yesHorticulturae
Tree peony (Paeonia ostii T. Hong et J. X. Zhang) is an important medicinal and ornamental plant. It would be useful to propagate this plant in tissue culture, but it is difficult to induce root formation.
